Which is perhaps why I didn't bother suggesting it, though I travelled
from Belfast, as do several of the road racing fraternity here.
My HG racesuit does not have the dodgy graphics mind.

Don't forget Lewis Leathers. I think they have a London shop now and do
    a bespoke service.

My made to measure suit was under 800 quid, which is about as cheap as
you'll get for good MtM. The off the peg stuff is cheaper.
Why don't you just give him a phone call, and see if they have
anything which meets your requirements and budget? He's a great chap,
and won't mind talking things through with you.

Mine wasn't MtM but could have been for the same price, had I been
happy to wait. As it happens, it's pretty much a perfect fit anyway.
Also about £800 list price, although I got the VAT refunded.

I'll not bother recommending them o the OP, as it's a little bit
    further away even than Bedfordshire...

  7. IMHO? Oh yes. The quality of finish is amongst the best on the planet,
although the robustness can be matched by other UK specialists who can
    save you a few pounds.

Actually, I'm in France from this weekend.
    Are they any cheaper there?

  9. Thick poorly-tanned, over-drummed leather: yes. Well-tanned leather:
    no.

Tanning is a highly technical subject with any amount of variables that
will affect the final quality of the material. That's why, IMHO,
consumers who aren't confident they will know what they are getting for
their money should run with accredited products.

  10. If you truly want guaranteed quality and the single colour you require,
you will have to travel. Unfortunately, this might require you to cross
a county boundary or two. :) "Caveat emptor" products are probably
    available right on your doorstep.

Dunno, but IM limited E there doesn't seem to be as much choice in
France as you get in the UK. Most common brand around here is IXS, a
Swiss make which is supposed to be quite good, but I wasn't impressed.

Price-wise, the only example I can give is for an Alpinestar 2-piece
at around 700Eu. Seemed that it was about the top price for that
    brand, though, IYSWIM.

I bought mine in Germany just because they were a much higher quality
than anything I could find in the French shops, albeit being much more
expensive too. But the Germans seem more into leathers anyway (fnaar),
at least as far as I can tell from what I see in the shops.

  16. I crossed swords with one of the managment at IXS many times in the
early days of the European Standards committee. They utterly opposed
any standards for motorcyclists' clothing. That tends to indicate to me
that the people concerned might not be overly preoccupied with the
build quality of their kit, although there are noble or occasional
    exceptions.
IMHO: Avoid the A* brand. It may be that Alpine Stars leather garments
are best worn only after two years of treatment with a leather food,
during which time they should only be worn around the house and garden,
and certainly not on a motorcycle. :)

If you're within spitting distance of Andorra, that's the place to go.
Loads of tax-free bike gear shops in Andorra la Vella.

    Champ says...
I'll second everything said by the silver barnetted Lothario. I love my
MJK 2-piece. It was watching the likes of Champ and buddies throwing
themselves up the track and walking away that prompted me to buy mine.
    Worth every penny.

I was wearing a Nitro 1-piece race suit yesterday at Donington, only
279-99 quid to you, sir. They come in 3 colour schemes, but the
    black/grey/white I have doesn't look too power-rangerish.
