OK, I'll pop in in the morning and see what he's got.

    Champ says...
The leathers I was wearing yesterday retail at 279-99ukp. Paul
mentioned that he tested some that are made by our firm, of about the
same price, that held up quite well.

Which bit of Essex do you live in FFS? From here it's a scant hour.

The OP wanted to know about leathers, so the thread is biased to
    suggesting leathers.

  6. Phone Flair Manufacturing in Scotswood Road, Newcastle upon Tyne
(Google for contact details) and ask them if they still have any CE
marked RS Performance Protection suits in stock (multiple MCN and RiDE
product award winners during the mid-to-late 1990s). Should fit well
within your budget, but I appreciate the distance involved in making
the purchase might be an issue to you.

Okay, mine is having met him, ridden with him, and something else I
    don't want to discuss here.
I think it's a more sound basis for a judgement than what you're going
    on.

  9. LOL. The problem arises when he needs to visit the Flair emporium to
try the suit on for size, although I understand that if one prefers to
buy mail order, the postage and haulage systems work just as well when
returning wrongly-sized garments from Essex "uphill" to the north east.
    :)

  15. No they're not, they're merely better than some. "Best" is subjective in
    so many ways.
Hmm, I'm not sure this is a valid arguement really - if you do enough
road miles to warrant buying leathers, then skin is skin - the tarmac
    ain't choosey.

And this is exactly where I was at recently. About 2 years ago, I needed
some new leathers badly, but was skint. I bought a Buffalo jacket and
trouser combo from J&S in Watford for £200, and bartered in pair of Sidi
Raptor boots for £120 instead of their usual £160.

When new the suit was an okay fit in the majority of places, except from
the elbows and knees down. Shins didn't matter, courtest of the uber
boots, but the flappy sleeves soon got tiresome.

Less than 2 years on, and they're pretty much useless - partially cos I
appear to have lost weight, or at least changed shape, add in some
stretch on the leather too, the fact they were worn in all weathers, and
if not daily then almost certainly many times a week. The buckles and
zips are pretty much all a bit fucked now too, and the lining is torn in
more than one place. Oh and the pockets too.

So, they were cheap, they did a job, never went down the road, but,
    ultimately, didn't last.

I was contemplating MJK, seriously enough to fly back to the UK, see
Graham etc despite the fact they're actually made here in clogland.
However, looking at the best part of £6 or 7 hundred quid - I took a
    look around over here instead.

My criteria was (in no order): Black, good fit, 2 piece, armoured, lined
    and decent feel/quality hide.

I ended up with a Spidi GTS suit, reduced from 999 euros to six hundred
something (more likely the real 'value') and then reduced to 450 in and
end of rail clearout. They happened to fit well - the only downside
again is the arms are a little flappy, but, at least the wrists are
adjustable, so they don't fill up like a balloon. They're all black, 2
    piece, and CE armoured.

    YMMV

I find this a little boring. Let's face it, crashes are rare so if
one only does 3000 miles a year on the road, how many crashes is one
    likely to have?

For the record, I have MJK leathers, but I haven't recommended them to
the OP. the reason? I've hardly worn the cunts. I'm just not that
fucking bothered to bother with the effort of putting them on and the
lack of practicality when they're on.

But. It's you that's taken the safety nazi stance. So....

..... I'd say that your priorities are all fucked up. Safety nazi or
(anti) fashion victim - make your choice. You can't have it both
    ways.
