I disagree. For 90% of the time I choose to use my bike, they are perfectly partical. A small tank bag, which has no noticeable effect on handling or comfort, can carry all I need in the way of spare shoes, jeans etc. for a day at the office, friends or relatives. Sure, there are situations where going by bike is not appropriate, but then I have the choice and would go by car - to a 'posh'[1] restaurant, for example, but I don't think this is the kit that makes it impractical, but the means of transport itself. And comfort when off the bike can be just fine if you get decent, well-fitting kit. If it's not comfortable to both ride and walk in then there's something wrong with it. I'm not sure I'd make that correlation, whether it's factually correct or not. I've had numerous small spills, mostly >20 years ago, but never anything resulting in injury[2] other than grazes and bruising. So it's not experience of the lack of safety that prompts me to wear leathrs, more that they're simply the most practical clothing for use on a bike. Good point, well made. [1] i.e. one where I'll feel the need to wear at least newish levis and a clean T-shirt. [2] Not strictly true - I did something to my hip (which still gives me the occasional spot of bother) falling off a C70 on a damp road seem about 25 years ago. -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'.
