This is where a slipper clutch is good. You just stamp it down through
the gears and drop the clutch out when you feel like it.

Call me a safety nazi if you like, but there's no way I'm riding in
    slippers.

He says that when he drops gears to quickly "the back wheel would lock
up" which is why I suggested the above. Please also note that the
person I was reply to was *not* the OP in this thread.

I suggest you question the person who I was replying to as he was
worried about locking up his wheel when changing down who also appears
to be a different person to the OP who had a completely different
    query.
I am aware of this the "upright corner braking" strategy successfully
    in my New Year's Crash.
Would you suggest that the poster would find it much more useful to go
straight into the back of the nearest car while being scared of
    touching the brakes?

Quick, someone cook a high cholesterol and fat filled Full English so
that he may eat it while absorbing beer via an IV drip, chain smoking
    and farting the national anthem!
    I'm always very polite.

Bummer innit eh. If only they made corners straighter we wouldn't have
to slow down at all. Ever.

Swot I do. I always know which particular wrong gear I am in for the
    circumstances.

Keep the revs up. After you finish braking and changing down and just
before you let the clutch out for the last time to start cruising take a
tenth of a second to open the throttle a touch to get the revs up to
speed. Do it deliberately for a week and it will become automatic.

Trouble with experienced riders is that they do it on automatic and
haven't actually got much of a clue. Be careful of their advice.

Replace "chain smoking" with "chain smoking while going around the
house all day wearing a t-shirt, shorts, long flowing dressing gown
and holding a G&T with two ice."

I don't really understand this "counting gears" concept. I don't often
have much of a clue which gear I'm in, other than that it's the one I
judge to be correct for the speed I'm going.

On accelerating I keep changing up until I run out of gears (or the
funky little "O/D" caption lights up on the BlingMobile's dash), and on
decelerating I keep changing down until I run out of gears, or the green
light flashes briefly to let me know I just went through neutral.

If the engine speed's right for a given corner, WGAF whether you're in
    third or fourth?

You, lack of understanding, concepts. Usual fare then?

I have found over the years that if the gears need changing it is
because the speed is changing also and a half of a tenth of a second
later needs doing again. Knowing where you are starting from is half
the battle of being right when you get where you think you are going
    imho.

You look at the dash while you are setting yourself up for a bend?

I do. I want to be in top and have had it nailed for the last half
    hour.

You say that you choose the correct gear for the speed you are doing. In
my world the need to change gear happens at a time when speed is a
variable. Sometimes that need is more urgent than others.

At times like that I find it a bonus to know what gear I am in so that
the speed of the world, according to my peripheral vision, can be
matched with an appropriate amount of open throttle to make it faster
again as quick as it will happen.
Wasting your time on trivia I calls it.

As far as I remember the thread you introduced the 'high revs
downchange' which is why I'm questioning you.
If he has to brake to avoid a car when he's cornering at this time of
year he's most likely going to come off. I'd suggest he tried a little
    more forward observation.
