New Tax/SORN Rules?

The GSXR has been off the road with it's previous owner since late last
year, so only for a few months. For this, he would of had to of had a SORN
right, since the bike isn't taxed.

I'm not putting the bike on the road until I've sold the Goose,.

Do I have to re-SORN the bike now that I have bought it, to declare my
intentions to the DVLA, or does the SORN done by the previous owner cover
the bike til later this year?

    TIA

Normally, if you buy something that isn't taxed, the dvla will send you
one of those tax (sorry, be PC - VED) forms to get a new disc. I'd assume
that if you haven't had anything since you bought it, that it's still
covered by the old one and you'll probably have to notify them in advance
so that they then send you the form to put it back on the road again.

I haven't got the V5 back yet, as I only picked the bike up on Saturday.
Looks like I'll find out when that comes through :)

How's it going with the NC30? I was offered one the other day for £1000, and
I was tempted, but it was still just a little over my budget.

Yes. I had problem with this last year when I transferred bikes to a family
member. Presumed my SORN was OK, then hit got hit with several fines for
failing to SORN them in his name.

Not a clue, but given that SORN-ing is free and the fine for not SORN-ing is
in real (as opposed to i-)Pounds Sterling, what harm can it do to inform
    them again?

I think you should declare it SORN when you get the logbook, it's free
anyway. I put the logbook an untaxed bike in my name without informing
them it was SORN and ended up with a £25 fine.

Admittedly the DVLC weren't aware of it as it was neither taxed or sorned
and hadn't been for some years

WTF is politically correct about VED? idiot.

VED is just the official term rather than the more common one. That's
not political correctness, simply using the 'proper' term.

Not quite sure there's any kind of 'grace' period with it. All the SORN
fines were dated on the the date of transfer.

Quite well, ta. Getting on better with it than I have with the other bikes
that I've owned so far. :)

No, just tired of idiots who can't distinguish between political
    correctness and correct terminology.

  14. Not all POs have the required form. For instance the main PO in Hull
told me to go to Beverley to get the form so I ignored it for 6 months
and never heard, but it sounds like they're cracking down right now.

I hope that's not an essential part of being politically correct, if it
is then things have just gone too far!

May I suggest that we all **** the dvlc up by writing lots of polite
    letters along these lines?
