  3. Wow!

The Daytona looks gorgeous! I had only seen the photos on MCNews, and
any that were in Two Wheels (can't remember if any surfaced there), and
they really didn't do anything for me. Sure, it looked nice, same as
every other mid-sized, agressivly-styled sports bike.

I love the current Daytona 900 styling, and the angular,
sharp-as-knives lines on the 675 really didn't appeal.

However, looking at those pics, I must say I've changed my mind. The
red is an awesome colour on it, and it works so well with the
blacked-out frame, tinted screen and gold forks. The fairing design
does not look as sharp either, maybe it's simply due to looking at it
at a different angle - the MCNews pic is a square, side-on profile. The
lights suit it down to the ground too - I liked the eyes on the new
ZX10R, but they just really didn't suit the rest of the bike. Here,
everything works together, it seems. Nice job by the design team!

And yes, the Scrambler is cool. I'm a big fan of what Triumph's doing
with things like the Scrambler and the Thruxton. I'm a big fan of the
old-school bikes, but haven't the time or (more importantly) the
ability to get a genuine old bike and fiddle with / restore it. I'd end
up breaking crap, and throwing the entire thing in the shed. Things
like the Thruxton give you all the benefits of modern engineering, good
brakes, EFI, etc, all in something that's got a bit of history behind
    it.

Quick question though - if there's already a load of these bikes at the
warehouse (which I assume is in Oz?), it can't be very long before they
start popping up in the dealerships? That's pretty amazing, considering
that it's not been that long since they were formally announced. I
can't afford one, but I do reserve the right to go and sit on one, and
    dream a bit!

    Thanks!

PS - thanks for posting the pics Al! Now I feel like some kind of
"industry insider"! "well, I'VE seen the new Daytona..."

I assumed it's a rushed-over pre-production bike for the GP expo next week.

Ah ha. I went to a dealer yesterday morning and they said they weren't
expecting any until March next year. They have sold two already! In
motorcycle news read that they would be $15k :)

I've been told April next year for a Speed Triple - what's all that stuff in
    the warehouse?

If they're going to give them to the motorcycle mags for pre-release
reviews, they're going to need a few spares to replace the one's flipped
    while taking the cover photos.

You be careful, the last bloke who put in an order to santa
via this group had to settle for an autographed picture of
    santa himself. It wasn't pretty.
