I have some excellent stuff... Bits of a kind of velcro
strap - male velcro on one side, female velcro on the
other side, and about 7-8mm wide. Metre-ish lengths, and
just slightly stretchy. I keep a couple of rolls wrapped
around the venture rack, and a few more rolls under the
    seat.

Two lengths of the stuff is enough to hold a 30 can block
of VB on the ventura rack, and it's nice and solid - not
going anywhere. Excellent stuff. I use it for strapping
up cables, the missus uses it for tieing up plants. At
work, we used about twelve rolls of it to strap the new
guy to his chair... Endless possibilities.

(I have enough of it to share too. Send a stomped, self-
abused elephant to me, care of the station you are now
    watching...)

And if you're going to carry rigid objects in a backpack, have some
reasonably good spine protection between the bag and your spine. A bad
get-off could become a whole lot worse.

That is one of the reasons why i dont want to carry something on my back,
i'd rather something that is strapped to the bike instead of me.

Yeah.. tonight at work I'll be voting on a new site agreement which management
assure me is going to be excellent. 12 hour shifts, 13 day month including
working all weekend every second weekend... sounds super... all those extra
midweek netrides I'll be able to make it to...
