Possibly, though it wasn't that old or had a lot of miles, not that
that means anything with dealer loaners. I *hated* the feel of the
front end - I had absolutely no confidence in the front end at al,
just felt like it was going to tuck under at any moment. My brother
rode it, and hated it as well.

I'll let my mate, what has one, know that then. Though he's not the
type to abuse a bike without some TLC as well.

Eh? My SV650SK1 has a 2.7l oil capacity, not a whole lot less than my
ZG1000's 3l. And I have heard tell of some folks who have 90k miles
on a first gen SV without issues. Mine has about 38k on it now, and
still sounds like a brand new bike. I put very few miles on it since
basically handing it over to #1 sprog who seems to prefer other
activities than riding, at the moment.

There was a problem with the early bikes due to oil starvation when
wheelied or on hard acceleration, to my knowledge all the affected
engines were refitted with a sump baffle to address the problem and
a running design change was made in mid-model year. I can't talk
much about heat issues but mine's never complained despite a smallish
radiator even on the hottest of days. It does pay to keep the
coolant fresh and the rad free of bugs.

They are still not the best platform for stunting because of oil
supply when vertical-ish, but in normal riding (even racing) they
    don't have a problem.

Pressure washing before I acquired it I think. I'll be stripping all the
rear suspension, steering head and wheel bearings to check if there's
    any grease left in them

But you're in the states, we ride harder over here. I'm just passing on
what I've heard from a number of sources in the UK.

Ah, maybe. But I installed a water filter some years ago. About that
time, I started watching Dr. Who.
