How long after someone does a post should the post appear? I get delays of
around 12 hours before people's posts come up. If I refresh the newsgroup
after I put up post of my own, that post shows up straight away.

I presume this is not normal, because I see timestamps of other responses
    much closer together than that.

I'm using Outlook Express and Big Pond cable. Feel free to flame away, I'll
read it later. For now though, the orange mistress is calling.

  2. BigPong! I've had a delay of around six hours since I started with them.
They may like some abuse off you too.

Hello 4.35pm? Its 1.05am here! How's the weather!

Thanks for the explanation Paul. Time for some nasty emails to the Big Pond
    people I think.

I have quit bigpong as a news server and use the German server run by
http://news.individual.net/ It's free, but requires registration. Fast
    reliable.

Their response: "We don't care. We don't have to, we're
    the telephone company".

now would the typical answer to that be "I told you so???"

This is Telstra you are dealing with..... enough said.

Heheh - good luck! Last time I contacted their BigPond "Direct" customer
service to report that reader.news.telstra.com wasn't sending or accepting
new articles, the moron on the end of the phone said "What's a news server?
Is that like CNN.COM?". I jest you not. I asked to speak to someone with
$CLUE and was told they'd put it in the work queue and "someone" will call
    me back tomorrow.....argh!

This is how they treat their *business* customers - I shudder to think what
the poor consumer level users get!!

BTW - "someone" turned out to be "no one" but the server mysteriously came
back to life about 36hrs after made the call.

  8. Agreed. I've been using them since before they were them! Just thought I'd
try the bigpong one 'cause I'm only lurking and, well, I'm paying for it
    anyway.
