  1. What's the best version of Agent to try? Xananews keeps crashing so I tried an unofficial
later version and it's worse (the nice hilighting features are all broken and it still
    crashes).

I see the latest Agent is 4.x (and costs) and most folks here seem to be using 2.x.

I was 2 because I think it was the peak of Agent's Usenet
functionality before they got sidetracked with email, binaries, and
    general bloatware.

Unfortunately, you can't download it from anywhere or buy a key.

I'm looking for a new reader too. There's been a big increase in spam
recently and when I asken Zen if they could do anything about it they said:-
So I want a newsreader with decent spam filters.

  6. That was what I was using. Was taking an age to catch up even after I'd purged and stuff.
Removing and re-installing helps for a while. It crashed a lot.
That's what I'm using now. The ctrl-m thing stopped working or it would crash the
machine. Also, new replies etc aren't hilighted, so I have to manually got through the
    threads.

Certainly can't download it, hence my requests here for an installer
when I rebuilt my machine a little while back.
Yes, I'm moving to Ginge's idea of running it from a USB key because
then I can stick it in any old machine.

What's it do better than 1.93, like wot I use?
If you've copied the whole installation, /data directory and all, it
won't prompt for a license key at all. I find that's the easiest way
to keep my memory stick copy up-to-date when I've been browsing at
    work.

4.x is actually very difficult to use as a simple newsreader. I regret
buying it (well, a bit, it wasn't a lot of money, but I can't be arsed
    using it).

I still have 2.0, but since I'm so used to having to use Google Groups
at work, I usually just stick with that at home too.

Do you have HTTP/HTTPS access at work? If so you could probably use the
Motzarella server with port 443, y'know.
