It's a cost thing. The limits have been set to ensure
that nobody can buy the championship by throwing the
    most money at the bike.

You're basically limited to either a 600SS or Monster
600 or 620ie, and this helps to keep the costs down
and make it an affordable way to go racing but stay
    loyal to the Ducati brand.

The 600 engine is between 51 and 53bhp depending on
year and the 620 is 60bhp, so not really much in it.
Rules say max CC is 675, so you could bore out the
600 to match the 620 for power.

But I'm going to have a looksee at what I can get and
    then give it a bash!

No wonder they have always seemed too easy to catch.

  6. Page MacFrame (prolly on uk.comp.sys.mac) as he tweaked his 600SS, IIRC.

Ducati always quote at the wheel rather than the crank.

  8. Ducati's quoted power figures are generally very close to reality.
Actually, wasn't there something in MCN about it recently?

Would that be at the front wheel? I can't believe they have that little
    power.

Who cares? It's more than enough when you find yourself
going 30mph too fast into a corner heading for the gravel...
