Nice bike roads?

Indeed, but there are instances (as per my example) where rules or
otherwise people tend to bunch up (I'm not saying it's right, just
what they do). However as with sailing 'the overtaking boat keeps
clear' so a second wrong doesn't make it right (and is IMHO a more
    dangerous wrong).
Not quite, the lorry had been indicating for a while and was waiting
for his moment .. AS he actually pulled out so did the Shogun (but the
lorry did so slower of course). I don't think Shogun had seen the
tractor (we had, up the inside) and he may have thought he was just
pulling out a bit to pass a cyclist or something (not going right over
to the other side of the road).
Yes, but, cause and effect. Had the Shogun not tried to overtake a
lorry while it was in the process of overtaking a tractor he wouldn't
have been left where he was. Because he had been tailgating several
people for some time I guess he had pissed a few people off, hence got
the treatment he did HC or otherwise <shrug>.

Because they made a decision it was safe to overtake when others
didn't. I was looking down the outside of the lorry at regular
intervals but I was aware there were people in front (and close
behind) doing the same. WE had decided it wasn't safe to overtake all
of them, nor did we want to push in if we made a bad call. Maybe some
people need to get places that much more desperately?
I just couldn't see the Shogun dipping (more like blundering) in
    anywhere. ;-)
As I mentioned above, we may have judged it wasn't appropriate to do
so at_that_instance (and in the case of the Shogun several times it
    wasn't).

    Cheers, T i m

Really? I guess it depends on what you are driving / riding and what
speed 'slowly' is? I don't think I would ever overtake (when in my
cars) anyone indicating right.[1] On the bike and depending on the
road layout I may do so but right over the other side of the road and
    cautiously.
Agreed, as long as said overtake is done 'with due care and
    attention'.

    T i m

[1] Unless time / distance / conditions driving style suggested they
had forgotten to cancel their indicator and I would still do so with
    caution.

We followed one of those yesterday as well. Open topped sports car
driven by an older bloke. Indicated left for probably the best part of
2 miles ... then turned left into the golf course. ;-)

    I didn't (or didn't intend to).
Agreed. However, do you agree that just because they aren't leaving
room does not give overtaking cars the right to barge in?
Quire possibly ... it all goes blurry after a while ... right that
must mean I need more Special Brew.

    Oh, absolutely.

Which is the other reason that Tim and his sheeple mates are utter cocks
for all sitting bunched-up to stop anybody else queue-jumping.

I was almost convinced for a moment, though.

Can I just make a nomination for this being the most tedious subthread

    Thanks.

**** off, or i'll buy a caravan and tow the fucker behind the motorhome at
38.6mph along all the nice single A and B roads every time the sun comes
out, operting the toilet tank dump valve whenever i see a biker in my
    mirrors :D

i wont sit at 40 behind a truck for longer than i have to, if the wankers
behind me can't see there's a truck holding me up, they deserve to shit them
selves when they try for a dodgy overtake and finaly see the full picture.

Problem is, most people in cars see a motorhome in the same light as they
see a lada or a moped, they just have to overtake it or they're telling the
world they have a small dick,
the ammount of twats who will speed up to overtake a motorhome traveling at
the speed limit, then once past slow down again to the speed they were doing
before, which is usually 1mph slower than the motorhome is going at.

but when driving a large vehicle in heavy traffic, leave a gap, and some
chav will be in there, so what do you do then, leave another gap for another
**** to get in, before long your back at your doorstep :)

anyhoo, in my origional post i mentioned bmw's, if you drive another car,
    i'll let you in.

But to be serious a second, whilst my motorhome isnt slow, it's not got an
excess of power on tap, i cant just pull out, stomp on the loud pedal and
expect to zoom past something and that seems to be something not all road
    users can grasp.

i have to plan an overtake, see a gap in front, hang back a little to build
up some speed then pull out, once the momentum is there i can be past a
truck doing 40 and at the end of the overtake be doing 60+ with ease, and up
untill i pull out for the overtake, i can let off the power and stay behind
the slower vehicle if for some reason it's no longer safe to do the
    overtake,

the problem is when i've spotted a gap in oncoming traffic to do a safe
overtake, hung back a bit, applied power and am building up the speed before
i pull out, i find some twat in a car is by my side having pulled out from
behind me thinking it's only me going slow, i have closed the gap becasue i
was building up speed ready to pull out, which i can't do now, and usually
the twat besides me wants in even if he has room to go past the other
    vehicle infront of me,

And yes i always indicate right before starting an overtake manouver, but
despite having both high and low lever indicators on the back of my van,
none of them are visable to car drivers it seems, or if they are they don't
    mean anything.

that's it, and if a gap isn't there, they can force one they think, as they
are the only one who has to get somewhere and thus has more of a right to
    the road than you do,

as they say, assumption is the mother of all fuckups,

I always wonder if these twats in cars who drive like that are the same ones
on the tube in London outside rush hour, they have to run down the
escalators, just so they can wait on the platform for the train 10 seconds
longer than those who stood still.

    If I wanted a High-abuser I'd have got one. I have a GTR1400, and whilst
clicking down is not necessary, by gawd, it makes Oi larf.

I was reminded of a recent post this evening and nearly posted:

"I hit the rev limiter in the first three gears this evening. Is it
possible I've permanently damaged the ego of the bloke who thought a Z3
    is a sports car?"

    Quite right.

I was following this old git in a Grand Vitara for a couple of miles
(mainly 30's, built up area but very quiet) and he was all over the
place (position and speed). When he did eventually turn off to the
right he did it from the left hand side of the road (a road big enough
for us to have gone up the inside of him IF he'd stopped anywhere near
    the middle of the road).

I don't think he knew we were behind him ... or maybe he did?
If only he really understood the situation! ;-)
    Of course. ;-)

Actually I got told off (by the daughter ironically) for verbally
venting my frustration at some of these people, people who didn't
get_on_with_it, and, make no effort to let me or others get by.

I don't generally do that for people who choose not to overtake or
want to bundle along at 'reasonable' speeds below the limit, it being
a limit not a target (or whatever they say). Again, a nice constant
speed being more tolerable than one that's going fast and slow (as if
    they are falling asleep).

The other is those who brake as soon as they see a bend, oncoming
vehicle, tree, field or basically anything that changes the scene
    slightly in front of them.

No flashing of headlights, using the horn or gesticulating here though
    (normally).

No, some noob was asking whether he'd damaged his engine by hitting the
rev-limiter. It crossed my mind as I abused my mechanicals on the way
    home from work, is all.

Eh? He was in a Z3, I was on a GTR, he seemed to want to play, I was
bored, I don't know what he thought of it all, he was a long way behind,
    and getting smaller.
