Are you sure? He's clearly used a flashgun to light up the foreground,
and could have under-exposed the sky to keep it nice and ensure the garage
    ceiling remains dark.

Considering the position of Rossi's leg, the bike is already moving...
fucking brilliant HDR software, I must say.

Could still have had a tone mapping job done on it.

More correctly that would be called tone mapping - unless he combined
several exposures or you have some kind of special monitor.

You can tell something has been done to that photograph from the light
"halos" around the various dark objects.

    Sounds like cojones to me.
    <Googles>

    "HDR-like"

You can't do HDR without taking multiple images - that's the whole point
of it - getting a greater dynamic range than the sensor is capable of.
    What's "dynamic resolution"?

ITYM vice versa. Turning up the dark bits is ok, the sensor usually
doesn't lose info in the underexposed bits. But detail is lost when it's
overexposed. So, reduce the exposure, take another piccy, then merge the
results. Is the principle. AFAIK. Without resorting to google again. I
believe some cameras can now take the two or three shots in one go, so
it seems like you are only taking one.

    Agree. I think it's horrible.

Response from photographer: "It's not HDR, but a JPEG edited in Lightroom.
    It's done with a 7D, Tokina 12-24 and an off-camera flash."

    ;-)
