While Airplane was painfully funny at the time I don't like slapsticky
humour so didn't rate him from there on in. Let's not forget Forbidden
Planet however, so he gets a seat in the Hall of Fame.

I've watched that a couple of times, too.
Oddly, I had the impression he didn't start acting until he was in his
fifties - probably a load of bollocks from some article that stuck in my
head.

 

IMDB says he started in 1950 and was in 239 productions. It also says
he was an avid motorcyclist. (On topic after all.)
