Noise!!!

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by James Mayfield, Mar 8, 2005.

    Riders,

Many of you have had a look at this survey and reported back your findings,

    Thanks.

We need more input from riders however, as this IS important. The

findings of this report single motorcycles out as "public enemy No1" to the

community. This document will be used to "inform" politicians who will be

reviewing NSW noise legislation in a few months.

If we do not make objections to this document you may expect further

tightening of the laws associated with motorcycles and additional costs to

all riders. Riders must address this issue NOW! Please forward this on to

    ALL your members.

Issue: The Department of Environment and Conservation (formally the EPA )

have offered a recent survey as credible. I believe it's a little one eyed.

I need some people who can read between the lines to pick the eyes out of

    this document.

What we need is: errors, obvious bias, irrational findings, poor questioning

    structure, anything dodgy or non-science.

you will find the file here:

    http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/resources/nnsurvey2004.ppt

Here is the EPA website covering notes on the survey:

Your interpretation is also a bit one-eyed mate:)

Noted that 98% of respondents felt current bike noise regs are "appropriate"

    or "highly appropriate".

In fact, it could be argued from at least one chart that traffic in general

is more annoying that bikes (and I'd definitely agree with that particular

    sentiment)!

What I REALLY take issue with this kind of survey is the miniscule sample

size compared to the overall population. Hello - only 750 people?

Actually, come to think if it, it desn't really present any real findings at

    all.
