12.29 am, from Andy. "It's game over for me. Inside of visor badly iced meant I couldn't see the road so called it a day. All back in Mosjoen."
Here in the Great White North, the snowmobilisti laugh at such conditions because they have double-insulated electrically heated visors... http://www.powersports4less.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=SU-836-361 But indeed, respect is due. My cow-orker was just yesterday telling me about the adventure bike trip he's going on with Edelweiss this coming July/August... to Nordkapp. Chuckle.
It won't be me. The tips of 2 fingers on one hand the the thumb on the other hand are 'nipped' but hopefully not deep enough for it to be proper frostbite. My heated glove lead came undone as we set off but the damage was probably done when I fucked about taking my visor off to scrape the ice off the inside. Everyone pretty gutted but the others may go again tomorrow.
Did he give his most northerly location? Enquiring minds need a lat, long. -- +------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | UKRM do Nordkapp Map: | | http://www.text2kml.co.uk/sqlmap/mapukrmnew.php | +------------------------------------------------------+

Do be careful Bond. You're all idiots, but at least you're our idiots. Fingers crossed for better weather, and no injuries.
You say scoffing. I say fucking furious. Andy gets a bit cold, has a wobble and throws his toys out of the pram. Can't risk anyone riding alone[1] so we all have to return. The primary problem is that they wont ride fast enough and consequently track into every little hole and track they cross. With studs fitted, the bikes behaviour is entirely predictable. You simply have to adjust to the reduced levels of traction. Relax the shoulders, keep the speed up and *do not* shut the throttle over the ruts and holes and it is actually not all that bad. Two fucking years I've been aiming for this. All the effort and expense and I get stopped 90 miles short of my goal. [1] It really wouldn't be sensible to ride alone here. If anything went wrong and you ended up off the road. You could die waiting for a rescue.
Ouch. And so soon after you'd had the hand "repaired" too. You can still lift a beer glass though, right? Good luck to all!
There's five of you, right? Two groups. One of three, one of two. One group stays where you are for two days, the other lot go north.
I'd love to see your surgeon's face if it was, and you had to have bits chopped off. Obviously I hope it's not - can you tell if there's circulation to the affected bits yet? I recall skiing at -35C and having similar problems with goggles - the absolute slightest bit of moisture instantly froze, outside and in, and it wasn't possible to clear it even if you did remove a glove. I do hope, for your sake as much as theirs, that they make it. Obviously, you'll have the pissed ripped out of you by the others for years to come if they do, but better that than being blamed for their failure if they don't. Good luck to them from Switzerland.
It has been a while since I last saw you but as I recall he carries slightly less natural insulation so he may have a point. OTOH he may just be a fucking lightweight.
