Even so you'd have been fucking stupid to carry on.

Unfortunately that doesn't appear to be the case. Any damage to the
fingers is minor and of no real consequence but after the way it's
ended I wish I hadn't bothered. I'm heading for home on the first
available ferry and maybe 3-4 days will see me in Oslo.

We sit at home and read stories of incredible achievement, like
paddling a kayak across the Pacific Ocean, or walking from Cape to
Cairo. Knowing that someone has done it makes it seem easier, perhaps
even achievable by mere mortals. The truth remains, it is still a very
difficult task that will foil most who try.

Kudos for finding your limit. Most of us don't ever bother.

    Absolutely.

This tweet from sweller shows hope for tomorrow though,

"May have another go at getting to arctic circle tomorrow; this time
without luggage but time is against us."

<fingers crossed for all of you>

Thanks. We have been interviewed by the local press who were
struggling to understand why we did it.

    Still disappointed though!

  10. If we can't understand, then I'm sure the foreigners can't either.

Understandable, but Andy's too experienced a mountain man to just push
on regardless when conditions are worsening.

You had to make a literally painful and correct IMO decision. You would
be even more upset if you had never had a crack at it.

Hmm, I don't think I said anything about what who should do after sunset
or not? If not for anything else, a bit of extra twilight could be
convenient after having chosen a place to stop for the night, and
    setting up camp.

When it comes to riding (or driving) in poor visibility conditions -
when on _snow covered_ ground this can often be the case when overcast
during daytime, due to lack of any shadows. In the winter, I often
preferred[1] driving after dark since snow reflects the headlight beam
very efficiently, increasing the reach of the headlights. And also due
to shadows thrown by the headlights on the road. As opposed to driving
on wet roads in the dark.

You have done very well, remember "first bikes past Kvikne this year"
and then much further on really tough roads. Not least on a very tight
schedule that hasn't given you any room at all to do the riding when in
pleasant conditions. I'd like to be able to think back on having done
such a trip myself, but I would never have got around to set off.

    It'll be fine.

Champ will show up any minute now in a helicopter to rescue him.

I've just seen that it's the Commie and Shrek's birthday today.

I hope you both get what you want.
