I've been getting in early enough to use the laneway next to Subway (which I
found out is called Denison St).
Strange thing with the signs though, there a space for about 20 bikes with
Motorcycle Only Parking signs, then at the end, there is a space for about 3
bikes and it has a Wheelchair sign with Motorcycles Only written on it. WTF?
Can't say I've ever seen a Wheelchair bike, is this something the world has
been keeping a secret from me?

they exist. Called Nippi, using a Honda scooter motor in a 3 wheeler
that a wheelchair can be got onto, and the rider can grab the controls
which are the front end of the bike.

However, the bollards stop anyone actually getting a Nippi into the
    parking spot....

ahh, our local council whizzheads at work again.

    <scratches head> If I had a wheelchairbike I would have found "car"
Disabled Parking and even normal car parking places more convenient and
    available.

AFAIK Disability Permit holders also don't pay for parking meters and not
    subject to time limits.

No wonder an explosion in RTA permits in recent years, abused by more able
bodied car drivers with miraculously cured ailments.

Rumour is that a particular rider agitated lots for the space. The
bollards may have been typical lack of thought or typical
miscommunication, or deliberate "up yours you troublemaker".

Isn't to get a disabled space, the fact you can't walk more than a 100
    metres? Not necessarily para/quad?

I'm assuming if you have a prostetic leg you could still ride a
scooter, and that would qualify you for the space.

My mother has a disabled permit (victorian type) and despite her cancer
she can still walk and looks to the casual passer by relativly ok. She
simply can't walk very far, having cancer in your lungs will have that
    effect.
There are many people with less obvious illnesses who are not rorting
the system, although I'm sure there are some who are.

  10. Not nessacellary. Ever tried jumping a wheelchair up gutters or wheeling
down narrow roads to the nearest driveway with lunatic, late for work,
non-discerning drivers around. Those Nippy scooters have a ramp at the back
that nobody leaves room for, let alone for a chair to manoeuvre onto it.
Then you have to get to where you were going, often up steep hills and
seriously off camber footpaths (try walking with one arm).
Which is why I don't fork out the hundred bucks a year to get one. I figure
if every other ****'s gunna park there anyway then what's the point!

  14. They told me 60 bucks and a doctors appointment. I told them I already pay
    enough for being a cripple.
It must be nice to have the option of using alternative, accessable
    transport.

    well unless its gone up

when the changeover came in it was $30 for the 3 years
of course for another one its another $30

as you can have one for all your cars and a permanent one for the bike

In the past it was a case of if the RTA monkey didnt think you needed one
    then
you needed to visit the doctor
    such as the car ?

I think the bike parking is free in Nth Syd IIRC

You know that having a dodgy regulator-rectumfryer isn't TECHNICALLY a
    disability, right?

GB, *technically*, it depends on how badly your rectum is fried.
