Usual non functioning bacon slicers and the trick about bare metal is
less is more. Otherwise you may as well buy a Harley.

My aim in life is to put a Vincent twin in the scabbiest black rolling
Norton frame I can possibly find and write ARMAGEDDON on the tank in
gloss paint with a 1" chinese paintbrush. Then get it to handle.

Is this a plan I see forming?

NorImps used to be quite competitive back in the '70s so I don't see
why they shouldn't make a decent cross country weapon now.

That would get a Hillman Imp engine.

  7. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, sweller
I think it would suit you, actually.

If you acquire some money (and I suspect it wouldn't actually be a huge
amount), give me a shout. I'm so fucking lazy I'll almost certainly
    still have it.

<looks in pocket> 3/- and a bag of lemon sherberts, they're stuck to the
paper bag but you can suck the paper away.

Sounds like enough for the paintbrush - it's a deal.

    When were Vincents ever cheap?

  14. Price of a week's wages in the mid 70s, I can assure you. That would
have got me something big and black with a big effing V-twin in it that
didn't run (but it was running last time he used it, some ten years
before, his widow told me) and was missing a few bits in a coal shed.
Quite what model it was I never found out but it wasn't enticing enough
at the time for me to be interested.
I had better stuff to be doing with my money at the time.

    <kicks self>

As for Norton frames - ten a penny.

I was out yesterday and two duffers on on Brit iron pulled into the petrol
station. One was a 750cc Enfield Bullet (I didn't even know they existed,
but apparently they either do, or the owner had made it into a 750) and the
other was on a '61 Bonneville. The Bonnie dropped its signature blob of oil
on the forecourt within seconds of stopping, but apart from that it was
really tidy. Sounded exactly like a Bonnie should too.

The Bullet on the other hand sounded like it meant to destroy any eardrum
    within a mile.
