Not every brush with CHP is negative

  1. Hello friends, riders, and those who complain about others,

While riding back home to San Jose from Jackson CA on Sunday morning, I
turned west onto CA Hy 4 in Angels Camp, and was followed by one of
California's finest from there to well beyond Copperopolis, a total of
about 25 miles to the Amador-Stanislaus County line.

I rode at "around 55" in the 55 m.p.h. zone and "around 65" in the 65
m.p.h. zone. I am proud to say that my driving skills passed muster.
The CHP unit finally passed me and then turned onto a side road when I
    didn't commit any traffic violations.

May everyone always be so lucky. Or skillful, take your pick.

  2. last time I had a CHiPster appear behind me in the mountains, I slowed and
pulled to the right on a short straight and waved him by... he passed me
and sped up, and waved me to follow... I thought, ok, wtf? and we had a
spirited cruise at a nice relaxed 75-80 on our beemers on a 55-ish Sierra
mountain pass (route 4 westbound, west of Ebbetts Pass)... now, sure, if
I'd been up there solo I might have gone faster in places, but this was a
nice cruise speed nonetheless. He was carrying pretty good speed through
the corners that had decent visibility, and was riding nice lines... I
stayed about 100' behind him.... When he turned off 40 miles later
somewheres near Big Trees, he waved again. I was smiling for hours after
    that :)

    YMMV.

You rode for 25 miles with a CHP on your tail? Wow. I would have just
pulled over at one point to "adjust something" and let him by. I'd go
    nuts otherwise!! :)

  7. I saw a couple of guys come by on authority GS's on 101 S the
other day. They wore white helmets and synthetic jackets, so
    weren't CHP; perhaps SFPD crowd-control.

Yeah, but on the other hand, there is also the "choke effect" of being
    watched.

Hell, I have some buddies who can **really** ride - and when they follow
me I make all sorts of stupid mistakes. Imagine if they could cite me
for letting my speed drift above the limit!

That's very interesting. I live along Hwy 4, in Arnold, and ride the
road over the Ebbetts Pass regularly. I've never once seen a CHP on
a bike; I've only seen them in 4X4s (Tahoe, Bronco, whatever). I'll
have to keep my eye out for one on an Orca; maybe I can get the same
    riding lesson. :)
