    Hi all

Im new to motorcycles and am considering buying my first bike. I've been to
look and a KMX-125, all looks great but the seller tells me that the battery
is missing as he didnt bother to replace it when it failed as everything
works fine off the engine anyway. The bike runs fine but I notice that when
running and in neutral the oil light is on and flickering. When putting into
gear it goes out. Was wondering if anyone can tell me if this is normal, if
its because the battery is missing or if there may be a problem with the
    bike or engine?

    Many thanks,

    Andy

Unless someone has swapped over oil level and neutral light?

If it's got plenty of oil in it, don't worry.

Thanks for your reply, the neutral light works as it should, on in neutral,
off in gear but the oil light is flickering on while in neutral but is also
off as soon as its put into gear. Someone said that on some bikes the oil
light comes on while in neutral as a sort of conformation that the bulb has
not blown, anyone know if its the same on the KMX? Could it be because the
battery is not present and the oil light or sender is finding a ground or
    earth through the neutral light?

    Thanks to all,
    Andy

  4. I've never heard of an oil *pressure* light that works that way. Are
you sure it's an oil *pressure* light and not an oil *level* light?

Also, the battery in small dirt bikes often works to provide voltage
stability to the generating system by using up excess voltage.

Running without the battery could cause the light bulbs to burn out,
    one at a time.

  5. Someone is right. The KMX, like the KDX, does this.

Stick a battery in the thing anyway.

  6. He never said it was an oil pressure light, and the KMX125 is a
    two-stroke, you ignoramus.

He's right: the oil warning light is supposed to go out when you put it
    into gear.

Dear old Krusty. Tries again to give tech advice, has absolutely no
knowledge of the bike in question (it's a rather neat little water-
cooled two-stroke single dirt bike, available in restricted and full-
power 20bhp versions), gets muddled between two and four-strokes, and
lapses into obscenity when he's called out.

    You lose.

Gee you got it wrong again and lay into people for it. No surprise
there...good ol' INSANE krusty. Sure bet he's out doing his
chickenhawk thing chasing young innocent men to abuse.

You could say that he's showing promise as a stalker - he has the
mindset for it - were it not for the fact that he's as useless at it
as he is at everything else.

It's a bit like being stalked by someone wearing outsize diving boots.

A battery isn't that expensive, if the seller won't fit one to make the sale
    he's probably hiding something.

Heh. You could be right. When I bought my son's DT50MX (first bike) it
didn't have a battery in it either. But then it was being used as a
field bike, so all the lights etc were in a box. I put a battery in,
and it kept flattening, so I checked the charging circuit and...

....no rectifier. None. Absent. Missing altogether. Vapourised. Beamed
up to Saturn. And the wiring was just bypassed. I hadn't even
*thought* of looking to see: "Is there a rectifier present?" because,
well, because you don't, do you? :)
