NSW: bike track facilities at Wyong

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Zebee Johnstone, Jul 8, 2009.

  1. via MCC list:

If you are a member of a club, then get them to fill in the form, if
you just like track days then fill it in anyway, saying you are a
member of a non-incorporated social group that does track riding.

    Wyong automotive racing precinct

Council has resolved to recognise in principle the need to establish a
regional Motor Sport and Driver Education facility within the Wyong
    Shire.

As a result, the Wyong Automotive Racing Precinct (WARP) project has
been established, with a view to exploring the potential to create a
Motor Sport facility which could cater for a broad range of
    activities, including:
Driver education facility (both general and race car education)

Car and motorcycle testing and racing facility for car enthusiast and
    club use

    Dirt bike tracks

    Mountain biking facility

    Karting

    Car dealer demonstration areas

Potential drag strip venue for street racers; and/or

    Concert / event space.

    Give us your views

Council is now conducting initial planning investigations in order to
identify user group requirements for such a facility.

As part of these investigations Council is seeking Expressions of
Interest (EOI) from potential user groups to determine the level of
interest if such a facility was established in Wyong Shire and to
provide a list of requirements including the range of facilities
required and potential usage level of such facilities.

Based on the outcomes of this EOI process, Council will utilise this
information to investigate possible locations within Wyong Shire for
development of a Wyong Automotive Racing Precinct.

  2. As a followup, consider this from the MCC:

Please file a response, indicating yours is a social club, but some of
your members do participate in events.

Question 15 is the place to indicate that other facilities, such as
lecture rooms and/or BBQ facilities be provided.

Consider that such a venue could be used for a gathering of associated
clubs, where ride-days could be combined with "festival" type events
of a social nature, rather than the single-view of the facility being
exclusively devoted to track-oriented events alone.

Most clubs within the MCC of NSW are social clubs, but we all have
members who love to go for a bit of a gallop from time to time.

A facility that can combine social and track-oriented events is a
    winner for us all.

e.g. open walled, roofed area for market stalls, open walled shelter
sheds near BBQ's, toilets, showers, changerooms
(OK, add in Q 16 to collect rainwater from the sheds for showers,
toilets, etc, ban bottled water and provide bubblers, etc)

One problem with existing tracks is that there is one single entry
point making the entire area subject to Motorsport legislation and
restrictions by the motor sport governing bodies generally resulting
in high priced entry tickets. Many club-level events are not
interested in spectator ticket sales, only particpant entry fees.
If an "associated social area" can be integrated with, but separated
from the "race track area", possibilities arise for social events that
do not have to encompass the running of a motorsport event. This
"associated area" could easily be managed by Wyong Council as a
"park", the same as they manage other parks and sportsgrounds.

e.g.. if your club has a number fo people attending a track day, your
club could also organise a social event in the local council provided
parkland separated from, but integrated with the racetrack. The track
area would be under control of the track event organiser and suitable
manageable gating provided between the two areas.

Please file your own ideas with the Wyong Council, or take from here
and add, modify or whatever, but do respond on behalf of your club
    Help Wyong Council help us.

This is a tremendous intiative and needs support.
