When I said that i thought each jurisdition honoured the licencing
conditions of other jurisdictions I didn't really mean that you should
interpret that as interstate drivers are excused from obeying any local
road rules which they are not familiar with.

The way the item is configured it appears to me if any group gets in the
way or makes comments considered undesirable or of a differing political
opinions ( which will of course be denied) they may be named

so yes in answer to your question it is a possible and I suspect your
going to be packed hard with something not resembling goose down..

Well... there has to be evidence of serious criminal activity that's
going to convince a picked judge that most members of some influential
members are plotting to do. Or that an overseas group they appear to
be associated with is so plotting or doing.

If this had existed at the time of the whole Patrick's thing at the
waterfront, then the wharfies would have been hit with it.

I think for most unions though, they'd need to um... have intelligence
of something like plans to extort money, or say damage coal mines, or
    be somehow corrupt.

To help swing pulic opinion, get a few ratbags on TV, and have some
anonymous sources talk about political interference and get some clean
cut whitefella to say he was stopped from working.

I expect so as I remember having several well known laborite union
persons swear, curse make particular commie threats and spit those of
the wharves at the time as well an smashing the buses transporting non
labor workers and security personal who were legally able to enter and
    work ..
That's a given and would take little digging to produce this evidence
    without fabrication
or say damage coal mines, or
you have read the same paragraph as I

I used to hang with a lot of guys who were in in the Eureka Youth
League, their fathers were in the "Party", so I'll be in the next
    cell.

"The end is nigh! The sky's about to fall! Outlaw Bikers are killing
each other and selling drugs to worthless junkies! Break out the
authoritarian legislation permitting the state to strip individuals of
their right to associate. There can be no other solution to this
    appalling state of affairs!

Bwahahaha.... You silly little puppy dog...

You want to talk about authoritarian control freak psychopaths, have a
look at how outlaw clubs "govern".

I nearly choked on my coffee today when I read that the thugs had a
meeting over the weekend discussing non violent conflict resolution as
an option. That's up there with Klingons coverting to the Quaker
    faith.

    .... and pigs flying...

If they're so damn bad, investigate, arrest and send them to trial.
If they resist arrest... good! shoot them.

Granting the government the power to strip individuals of the right to
associate and to seize individuals property on the basis of secret
"criminal intelligence", taking just 1 day to debate and pass the
legislation through both houses is so knee jerk I'm surprised your
shoes didn't fly straight through the far wall.

Turning NSW into a police state is a completely unnecessary knee jerk
    reaction.

I agree there are parts of the act which are alarmingly bad. so much
so that I would support a _sane_ campaign against the bad bits and to
try to insert some checks and balances.

The people who rushed the act through in an indecent haste were the
LibLabs. I'd suggest that about 80% of the inmates of this n.g. voted
for the LibLabs. (BTW, I voted Greens - the only major mob in
parliament to try to detoxify those laws.)

How is the outrage being translated into effective political action?

How many here have seriously climbed all over their local state member
telling him/her exactly how they feel about it?

Oh, right, I forgot about the Free Australia Party. A single issue
party which is/will be dominated by the same thugs the law is aimed
at bringing to heel. Well, by making that the main thrust of the
politcial action, the opponents of these laws have guaranteed that
they'll only get very limited, partisan support.

There is a far wider demographic out there who don't like these laws
but who would quite correctly look upon Free Australia with the same
degree of derision and suspicion as they do the Shooters Party.

Therefore, about 90% of those who oppose these laws are actually
repelled by this bunch of rabid ratbags calling themselves Free
Australia, and hence they are alienated from that camapign. That's
not the most effective way to capitalise on the existing dissent when
working out what your political strategy should be.

I'm well connected to left wing activist networks, and I have received
no emails inviting me to take part in any email petitions, protests,
meetings, rallies, or to send letters to politicians. Nada. Zip.
    Zero.

In here, apart fro a call to arms by the Free Australia loonies, all
I hear is bitching and alarmist scenarios done to death, but not a
word from anyone directing us to any efffective political action on
    the matter.

And you want me to stop laughing?

    Bwahahahahaha...

The Nine network has been promoting an upcoming show called "Sons of

    Nobody does _sane_ any more!

_Sane_ takes too long for a world rules by 30 second sound bytes (bites?).
"Don't blame me, I voted Greens" sounds a wee bit like "Don't blame me,
    I was just obeying orders."
Don't deride the Shooters Party, there is one bloke who has a life-time
ticket on the gravy train thanks to that party. :-(

Probably because most of your classic left wing activists wouldn't know
one end of a motorcycle from the other, and don't care.
Even with only two "f"s, there really isn't any effective political
    action available on the matter.

The world _is_ going to the dogs!

The sky _is_ falling (albeit slowly)!

The loonies _are_ running the asylum!

And, in case you ask, no, I don't really give a ****.

At my age, and given how much I smoke, drink, ride motorcycles and
indulge in other "risk taking behaviour", I can't see why I should worry
too much about the downward slope that we seem to be on.

The state of the world in maybe 20 years time is really not my problem.
No mate. If it makes you happy, laugh as much as you like.

    Well, certainly not me...
Only if you haven't had your hearing checked for quite some time. I
think you might be listening to your tinnitus.
See? I TOLD you there was something seriously wrong with democracy.

I have an idea for parliamentary pensions: At the end of a
parliamentarian's career, people can email their vote as to how much
the guy should be paid (max allowable vote is the curent amount of
their parliamentaly pension), and then he gets paid the _average_ of
the votes, or the ordinary old age pension, whichever is the greater.

    What do you think?
I'm still searching for that elusive "classic" left winger. There are
so many varieties of "left", it makes your head spin. They play nicely
into the divide-and-conquer strategies of their opponents. Silly
    duffers...

Your comment impies that the new act is aimed only at motorcycle
gangs. Yet most critics and armchair analysts have loudly proclaimed
that this law is probably _not_ aimed exclusively at motorcycle
gangs. D'oh... Niemöller? This view is very loudly echoed by many
"lefties", hence my comment about the apparent lack of a
well-organisied grass roots campaign to deal with these perceived
    dangerous injustices.

_Do_ try to stay on topic, old chap... :)
    Pure bullshit.
Because of the lack of will among the people to crank up some serious
People Power to stop what's happening.
Because of the lack of will among the people to crank up some serious
People Power to stop what's happening.
Because of the lack of will among the people to crank up some serious
People Power to stop what's happening.
See? THAT's the lack of will I was referring to.

Democracy is unfolding exactly as it should. We will reap the fruits
    of our inaction...
Well... when you put it like that...
    Thanks, Jock.. :)
