NSW: Ch7 show

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Zebee Johnstone, Mar 28, 2009.

  1. Channel 7 Sunday-Night Program is running "War on Gangs" tomorrow night.
    ("how Australia can fight back")

    http://au.tv.yahoo.com/sunday-night/

They are ringing around trying to round up riders to sit in the audience
for the discussion to go to air.

MCC of NSW has declined to go to this. It looks like an ambush. We have
already avoided several efforts by the gutter press to draw the MCC of
    NSW into the melee.

Ch 7 are also running a story on Chris Vermuelen and his racing exploits
in Europe with Suzuki. This is their "bait" to get riders to attend.

How would this be an ambush? Get some scruffy-looking riders into
the studio audience, portray them as "gang" and have some vigilante
start an argument with them and put that to air as representing road
    riders.........

Inciting passions is the game. This would encourage vigilante behaviour
on the street, as happened after Milperra so many years ago.

The downside is greater than any potential upside.

If ordinary road riders are seen to condone violence or drug crime in
ANY way, we're ALL in for a rough time, not just those who ride Harleys.

There will be riders who will attend "to get on TV". If you know
any who can't help themselves, please ensure they have the following
"talking points" and ask them to restrict any comment to this:

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The Motorcycle Council of NSW represents a wide range of motorcyclists
across the state. These include Girls Ride Out - a group for female
riders, Ulysses Club - a group for mature age riders and Patriots -
a club for current and ex-serving members of the Australian Defence
Force. Members of the clubs we represent include young people who just
recently bought a scooter, commuters, off-road riders and more experienced
motorcyclists, who enjoy riding a scooter or motorcycle both as transport,
    and for leisure.

As an organisation our main objective is to support our members, generate
better awareness of riders on the roads and ensure that motorcyclists are
represented and accounted for by government, whether this be on parking
and planning issues, road tolls or transport infrastructure. We also aim
to highlight the benefits of riding a motorcycle or scooter particularly
in light of the increasing cost of petrol and traffic congestion.

(i.e. touring, socialising - enjoying day rides, exploring roads and
places, quiet coffee with friends, rallies & camping, fund raising,
community support, "like minded people in my club", just ordinary people
who enjoy motorcycles, as varied as the community)

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It's the truth. Speak it with confidence.

So, Zebee, you reckon this "call to boycott" a piece of objective
    reporting?

Well, as at now, the online poll at Channel 7, "Should Outlaw gangs be
treated like terrorists?" the numbrs are: Yes=16 and No=84. Gee...
Seems Seven's evil scheme failed. Or perhaps Seven didn't really give
a shit which way it went as long as it got ratings.

Well, at least we now know one thing: Your're as partisan as the rest
    of us.

By the way, I didn't watch the program. How did it go?

I remember, many years ago, at a protest thingy in Sydney, being quite

Not sure how you're spinning this, but political activism in the
modern age is very much about getting on TV. You could call it
attention seeking, or you could call it "reaching the audience".

Oops, seems I thought it was Monday.

Also, the poll now is 41% Yes, and 59% No.

Interesting... I wonder what we should have that mean...

    It is Monday .... now.
That 41% of those people said yes and 59% of those people said no. Of
course these are the people stupid enough to spend $0.55 on a phone
call to vote and most of that money goes to Ch7.

Nothing unusual with TDT. They tried something similar recently with the
bushfires down our way. A mate of mine and his brother were starting cleanup
work (house burnt out) when a TDT team pulled up. They tried to get some shots
of them arc'ing up, baying for blood, blaming the CFA, DSE and god knows who
else. Thankfully, the lads ignored the bait and the "journalist" (or journaliar
    - tm, GB).

As this is now history, how did the show go? Did they get their tame bikies to
turn up and make arses of themselves? Perhaps they should've dredged up Damien
Codognotto for the show. He'd have made more noise than a club full of Harleys
    choking into life...

And these online polls are scientific, how?

But then, they do aim for the LCD of demographics. So, as far as they're
concerned, they're probably treated as gospel...
