MOTORCYCLE COUNCIL OF NSW We have all been stunned at recent increases in Greenslips pricing. Those riders who have atempted to obtain clear answers to exactly what they are paying for have been sorely disappointed. Our "back of the envelope" calculations on the small amounts of information we have been able to obtain have led us to a conclusion that this area requires investigating with a degree of urgency. Our aim is to ascertain whether the views we have formed are valid or not. Obtaining accurate and useful information that can explain costs and pricing has been a frustrating process of non disclosure. We have lodged a submission with the NSW Parliamentry Law and Justice Committee. This Standing Committee of the NSW Legislative assembly has extensive powers of investigation within its Terms of Reference. One of the functions of the Standing Committee on Law and Justice is to oversee the functions of the Motor Accidents Authority. We have requested that this Committtee investigate a number of matters in the course of it's Eighth statutory Review of the MAA and MAC (Motor Accidents Council) We have placed requests for this Committee to demand information that allows an accurate view of the basis of pricing for Greenslips in NSW. It is unlikely that the information will be publicly released, but the Standing Committee has extensive powers of inquiry for these purposes and can report on the conclusions and make recommendations about the operations and administrative practice of the MAA in approving premium pricing. As you may note from the attached letter[1], we are unable to publish our Submission to this Committee. Patience will be useful. Answers may take six months. We have set some complex tasks before them. Now we wait and discover the quality of our Parliamentry process.
