Here's one to watch out for - sent to me by one of our lurkers

    http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/rulesregulations/2008parkinglaws.html?rrid=parking

Note: No standing signs MEAN No stopping but they aren't changing them
straight away - that is don't even pause next to one or you can be
booked (as opposed to the previous rule that you could stop there to
    set down and pick up)

I'd be challenging it in court if you got booked on of these, but best
    to avoid being booked

  3. Not keen on the No Parking rule, where you are alllowed to stop to drop off
or pick up passengers and or goods, but must stay within 3 metres of the
    car.
what happens when the store where you are picking up goods from is 25 metres
    from your parking spot?

Naah it's the NSW govt that has that - if you'll note the ARR are just
being implemented in a way that guarantees people will get booked during
    the changeover.

They're broke after wasting our money - every little bit helps !

(green slip fees are up as of today too apparently)

To be fair (no, I _really_ don't want to be fair to the RTA) no
stopping zones are typically used to reserve the last few meters
before an intersection to ensure sufficient sightlines so that
vehicles approaching the intersection can see approaching vehicles in
the intersecting street. Which means they are typically there more
for genuine safety reasons than to collect revenue from shoppers.

Which is not to say that putting the onus on motorists to correct for
RTA oversights is anything but a highly objectionable cash grab.

While that is entirely true and correct, the problem is it's No Standing
zones (which aren't usually in that category) which are *becoming* No
    Stopping zones

    JL
Hence it is nothing more than the usual cash grab IMNSHO

You're a bloody cynic JL. It's clearly a safety measure
designed to reduce the number of speed related accidents
    in 'No Standing' zones.

(If there aren't any 'No Standing' zones, there obviously
cant be any accidents in them!)
