NSW to act against bikie gang violence

THE NSW Police Minister is to submit a plan to the cabinet following a request
by the Police Commissioner to rein in Sydney's wave of bikie violence.

In the most definite sign yet that the Government is planning to tighten the
screws on the state's 21 outlaw motorcycle clubs, the Police Minister, Tony
Kelly, said he would look at emulating some of South Australia's recent
    anti-bikie laws.

The South Australian legislation, introduced last year, has tried to outlaw the
clubs and make it illegal for anyone to meet bikies more than five times a year.
"We won't tolerate the outlaw motorcycle gangs committing violence in the
    streets," Mr Kelly said.

The announcement comes at the same time as a group of senior NSW bikies called
for an unprecedented meeting of every club in the state to prepare a defence
    against legislative attack.

The decision to act comes after Mr Kelly was handed a preliminary report by the
Police Commissioner, Andrew Scipione, in a meeting on Monday. The report
requested further legislative power to combat a recent upsurge in club violence
    around Sydney.

The recent shooting war between the Rebels and the Bandidos, as well as the
bombing of a Hells Angels' clubhouse in Petersham this month, is understood to
be the catalyst for the push for legislative action.

But the move will be met with stiff resistance by the clubs and their
supporters. The SA legislation has been described as draconian and reminiscent
of the McCarthy era by civil libertarians and the South Australian Law Society.
The laws, which have not yet been fully implemented, will be challenged in the
    High Court.

In an open letter from the NSW clubs yesterday, they said they planned to resist
    any curbs strenuously.

The letter called for at least two members of every chapter of every club in NSW
    - potentially hundreds of bikies from more than 20 clubs - to come to the
    yet-to-be planned meeting.

That would represent one of the biggest gatherings of outlaw motorcycle club
    members Australia has ever seen.

"This meeting will be neutral for all concerned - no issues, attitudes or
grievances past or present should be brought up," the letter read.

A copy of the letter was also distributed among Queensland club members.

A bikie gang expert and author, Professor Arthur Veno of Monash University, said
he was not surprised that the Government had decided to act, saying the NSW
bikie scene was "extremely volatile" at the moment.

But he believed legislation was the wrong approach. "My take is the big blue
gang [the police] better get in there and kick some ass, to put it very
bluntly," he said. "Legislation is pointless, it just gets the civil
    libertarians offside."

The legislation should also apply to the Big Blue Gang. They commit more
    crime than bikers do.

    Some recent examples;

But, they will allow street violence betweeen drunks at the local pub on
    saturday nights?

Recent shootings between rival muslim groups would not count??

Again, we have discrimination against a particular person and / or group,
all because of the method of transport they wish to use

    And so they should, vehemently.
That would not be a first, as when I started riding, any member of any club
or group coule freely mingle with other groups without any hassles. But, it
    is a great idea.

No worse than the gang wars between rival ethnic groups, drug dealers and
    other criminal elements.

This sounds very much like selective monitoring and legislation against a
particular group/s of people, who have been put together by the association
of having the same interests , mainly motorcycles.
When you own and ride a motorcycle, you are almost immediately branded as a
ratbag tear-away, drug-taker, boozer, especially if you ride a Harley or
other big bike, not as much of coarse if you ride a late model Vespa, but
what I have found is that most scooter riders have a scooter because of the
economy and the convenience of parking in the city and do not ride much of a
weekend, whereas a Harley , Triumph, Ducati, and other big bikes above
350cc. tend to do most of their riding at the weekend, where the cops are
out watching for them to fall over the edge of legality, either by road
rules or whatever they can think of..

And for those in Melbourne and suburbs, watch for that big bad looking
bearded bloke on the Rocket 3,
blame yourself if he asks you to drag off at the lights to see if you cacn
beat him, he is a copper,

I reckon it would be a hoot if all the Bikie gangs registered themselves as
political parties. Any legislation aimed at stopping them meeting or
functioning in other legal ways would then apply to the Labor and Liberal
    Parties too!

  17. Free bikes for everyone instead of laptops. Finally do something about fuel
prices. Fix ripoff insurance and mechanics. Fix the RTAs. Fix transport.

    Yeah, sounds good to me.
