Self-evidently a new number plate. She has fallen foul of the
non-standard font obviously. All she needs to do is to get a
conforming plate from a reputable shop that will provide a completely
legal one and present herself at an MoT testing station with the
vehicle - and the plate attached, obviously.

The MoT tester will look at the VDRN, the new number plate, extract a
couple of quid and countersign the VDRN. The signed VDRN then needs
to go to the Police station within 7 days, iirc. No further penalty
    will be applied.

So it will be the cost of a new plate and the tester's time (which
used to be a quid but is prolly a fiver by now). Job's a good 'un.

'er indoors has just been issued with a VDRN for 'DEFECTS FOUND:
registration plate (italics)' It seems that she has to get
verification of repair from an MOT station. Does anyone know how much
    this is likely to cost?

Somewhere between 5 and 15 quid then. I suppose at least the money
goes to a good honest MOT testing station and not directly to Police
    Ltd.

She still has the original legal one. She changed it to a smaller one
because of the risk to pedestrians. Still, the cost is going in the
    right direction.

    This on the VFR?

At the risk of a whoosh, how was the normal one a risk to pedestrians?

When I had to get my VDRN signed, UFO Motorcycles charged the
extortionate sum of a pack of biscuits (pref chocolate). Which seemed
like a fair deal to me.

  17. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
The peds would be leaping out of Sorby's way and catch their shins on
    the large plate.

I got a VDRN for a non-working brake light on my car. IIRC the MOT man
charged 3GBP to stamp a paper to say it had been fixed.

That's what she's just paid. I've deducted it from her knicker
    allowance.
