I got mine today, just got back from 350 miles of roofdown fun, burned my head, but **** me, what fun. I departed from the A1 at seahouses to really give it some down country lanes Seems fucking awesome so far. -- Nige, 'Candygram for Mongo' R1
<dons sensible hat> Have you checked your insurance situation for this? You're highly unlikely to get cover for your own car on a 'Tourist' day - although EU legislation says they can't really exclude cover, the insurance ombudsman has recently sided with the insurers on this one. However, that's the least of your problems - given the relatively low value of the Eunos. You really need to find some kind of 3rd party cover - not only because, should you hit someone and seriously injure them (even worse, if you hit a loaded MPV or coach.... although if you hit a biker, that could possibly be the absolute worse case), your insurers will pay out, then come chasing you for the money, but also because, should you have an accident which closes the track, they'll come looking for several thousands of Euros to cover repairs and lost revenue. Again, the insurance ombudsman has sided with the insurers on this - meaning they'll pay out, but *will* chase you for the money. You can get 3rd party policies, but they look hugely expensive, and have several 'get out' clauses. Essentially, the situation is that UK drivers / riders effectively take to the 'ring totally uninsured these days. The risk is up to you, but, personally, I don't think I'd want to take the chance.
Don't care ! See my previous post about driving home. Still going to do it. I am sitting on the balcony at The Hotel an Der Norschliefe as I write this, and nothing's gonna stop me now.
(SteveH) wrote in http://www.leeds-solicitors.com/nurburgring_insurance.html gives the details. You omit to mention that the situation has been referred to the European Court. I suspect the UK insurers will have to roll over and provide the same cover that is given by German insurers under the "minimum EU cover" regs.
Well, there are a few things to consider based on that. Currently, a UK insurer will come chasing if they have to pay up. This is not good, as it could well ruin you for life. We don't know when the EU case will come to court, so the above applies at the moment. The bloke who wrote that stuff on the website has massively agitated people on Piston Heads due to his agressive attitue to any questioning, and has also posted that 'I have a policy which covers me, so **** you', without actually disclosing who it is who offers cover - leading people to believe he doesn't actually have cover and that his legal advice is more than slightly questionable. The advice over there is 'if you do it, drive like you're uninsured, because you probably are'
Or are we going to start calling Munich - Muenchen, Cologne - Koeln, uws, usw ? There's a "UK" in the name of the newsgroup not "de"
