Re the story about Brunstrom showing the photographs of the decapitated
motorcyclist, as a resident of north Wales I dropped a letter of
complaint/protest to the North Wales Police Authority.

    Their response .. discuss ?

    Dear Sir/Madam

I refer to your correspondence regarding a recent press conference involving
    the Chief Constable.

In accordance with the Police Reform Act 2002 I regret that I am unable to
record your correspondence as a formal complaint. The reason is that you
were not directly personally affected by the Chief Constable's action.

You may appeal against my decision within 28 days by contacting the:

    Independent Police Complaints Commission,
    Eastern Business Park,
    Wern Fawr Lane,
    St Melons,
    Cardiff CF3 5EA,
    Telephone number: 08453 002 002
    Email:

Further information is held on the IPCC's website www.ipcc.gov.uk/

I would add, however, that the matter has been referred to the IPCC who are
currently carrying out an Independent Investigation.

    Yours faithfully

Ah but you were affected, weren't you? You had pressure from friends
and family to give up biking.

Any other response is proscribed by the Act. It really doesn't have any
bearing on the underlying question of Brunstrom's bias/competence.

As a slight thread hijack, have you heard anything about a bike demo
regarding Brunstrom's re-instatement of a mounted section, in complete
disregard of his alleged budget deficit?
Is it true? Has it taken place? How many bikers were shot? Were
water-cannon used? Is there still time to get there from mid-Wales?
    We need answers...

I believe there was something in the "Mail on Sunday" [1] about 250
bikers from all over the country turning up somewhere to demonstrate.
    Not much more info, IIRC.

[1] I didn't buy it, honest. It was one of the free rags in the
    Heathrow lounge.

Ah, so it was the demo about Mark Gibney. I wondered if the rumours I
heard might have been part of an attempt to broaden the demo.
