    1. Check the spark plug lead. Easy to disturb it when faffing about with
    the spinny bit.

    2. There's probably a foam air filter. Clean it out by washing in petrol.
Let petrol evaporate before reassemblling it.

    Hi,

I decided that considering it was a gorgeous day I'd have a go at the
garden with a petrol strimmer which we've kindly been lent. Donned the
racing leathers and lid, primed the engine put on the choke and pulled
the starter. Woo hoo! that thing gets through brambles like a hot knife
through butter - well it did till the string broke....

Sorted out the string no problem, but can I re-start the damn thing? I
have spent the last half hour with the choke on every position you can
imagine - ignition is on, engine has been primed, and yes there is
petrol in there. I even left it to rest for 10 minutes in case I'd
flooded the engine. The engine is almost firing, but not staying on even
    when I tweak the throttle.

Mr Mups did say he'd do the garden this weekend, but I wanted to get it
sorted before he got back from London. It's now got to the stage where
it's the fucking principle - I refuse to be beaten by a bloody 2 stroke
even though it's winning at the moment. It's lying there smugly while I
nurse the blisters I've got from the starter handle. I have resisted
kicking it, but even calling it a "fucking ****" doesn't work although it
    makes me feel better...

OK, any suggestions how to get it started other than what I've tried so
    far?

    Cheers

Sounds flooded to me, can be a right bastard to get them going again.
One method is to switch the choke off, hold the throttle wide open and
pull the starter until it fires.

Same sorts of problems on my model 2 stroke engines if you over prime
those or try to prime them before a warm start.

Once you have checked all the obvious things then: Easy-Start.

Somebody else's strimmer almost always has a totally fucked/desperately
in need of service motor in it. Often there is a "knack" to getting
them started, especially when warm, Ether is a "knack" which works every
    time.

Only the Loz starting method. Choke off, throttle wide open.
Yes. A fresh cat shit. And i'd seen it before I strimmed it. I thought
it was a dry one but boy was I wrong :)
I'm not googling for that ;-)

    Cheers,

She did, however doing a Blaney sorted the problem. Our back garden has
gone from rain forest to semi arid tundra. Much laying of turf is
    imminent I fear.

The petrol pipe in my strimmer dissolved.
Only the section inside the tank, so it looked ok from
the outside. Brilliant idea to make a petrol-soluble
    petrol pipe.
