I'm sure loads of people have heard of Jonathan Coe (he wrote "The
Rotters Club" which was adapted for TV recently-ish).

A few may have heard of B.S. Johnson also (certainly, I've read
Johnson's "Christie Malrey's own Double Entry).

I've heard of it. Jonathan Coe's hardly obscure - there's even been a TV
adaptation of The Rotters Club, ffs - and B.S. Johnson has been
something of an obsession of his for donkeys years.

Stella Rimmington - didn't enjoy that really (all the good bits are so
    obvioulsy cut out).

Roal Dahls is very good - a Spitfire pilot, BP executive in Africa, writer
and then film maker makes for an interesting read.

John Cole's "As it seemed to me" is another good read. One of the few
biographies I've re-read more than twice is George Woodcock's [1] "The
Crystal Spirit" - it's not really a biography more of a critical study of
    George Orwell.

[1] Not the TUC General Secretary of John Cole's early career.

Losing my Virginity by Branson was interesting. Not for the writing
but for business interest. Wat comes across strongly is tat without
the good people around him the company would've gone belly up years
    ago.

I'm looking forward to reading Ronnie Wood's bio.

I've worked with a few people who have either worked for/consulted to
Virgin and have dealt directly with Branson. They all think he's a ****
but they also think he's very very sharp.
