just seen a couple of 5-series BMWs with blues-and-twos going, forcing
    their way through the traffic.

    So far so normal.

However, almost all police cars around here identify themselves as
either "Metropolitan Police" or "City of London Police" in their
stickers. These just said "police". Odder still, normally underneath
the stickers, cars around here are white or silver (increasingly the
latter). These were painted flouro orange (i.e. the whole car) and I
mean "international signal orange" type orange, not some BMW standard
paint job. And strangest still, on the back they had two "hazmat" type
stickers - one a "skull and crossbones" and the other was the "two
spilling test-tubes" thing that means "corrosive material". Oh, and
the blokes in the car all had on flack jackets and CIA-style
    earphones.

    Any idea?

Don't forget all the red ones - normally City, but more and more Met.

Yes, you stupid **** I can, but the rest of the description would appear
    to fit darsy's post.

Unless you can think of other Met cars that are orange...

no - as I said the whole car was orange like the stripes on the back
of that, and it just had one small "police" sticker on the side - not
    the Met logo etc.

Also, >10 antennas on the roof.

sure, now I think of it I've seen a few red ones, but these where so
brightly orange I was glad I was wearing shades.

No idea, then. I remembered seeing those DPG cars on a recent 'wiki'
trawl, and thought that those where what you'd seen.

    Just thought you'd ignore it?
"Other" would require that one to be. It isn't.

So apart from the fact that it's a different colour and marked completely
    differently...

Now unless I'm seeing things, that car is red.

    Nope, can't see them either.

But other than that, you're perfectly correct.

No, but I saw some odd navy (unmarked) ones the other day going
like the clappers down Bishopsgate as they escorted what seemed
to be a Securicor van. The reason I paid attention was because
they were doing the block-and-catch-up routine at junctions, but
these guys were wearing attractive fluoro sleeves (and just
sleeves) to make their hand signals more obvious. Bless.

Mmm. Seen those (A6s rather than 5s) on the A1 around Archway - heading
into town at just under warp speed. Very anonymous, but somehow
    recognisable as being "different".

I strongly suspect they're the "Don't ask - you don't want to know, and
we'll not give a straight answer anyway" boys.

  14. Sweeney do Nukes? Ok, no nuke symbol, but that's a bit of a giveaway.
Of course, might be the boys in beige berets pissing about.

Actually, it's likely to be some odd agency/private consortium charged
with dealing with serious environmental toxic issues, like an overful
    dustbin down East Cheam.
As usual, put a **** in a uniform and he just acts like a bigger ****.

You were so busy humping my leg, that I can only assume the question
mark after my URL escaped your notice.
As well as politics and history, do I need to lecture you on English
    grammar, as well ?

Well your pic DOES show a red car as opposed to a flouro orange. It's got a
few orange stripes, but that's not what the OP was talking abut.
That leg must be getting sore.
