Of helmets for little heads.

After my last lid was left at a friend's house and then borrowed and
trashed by her youngest, I purchased (after much searching for a lid
that would fit) an AGV at the BMF in May. One of the chin vents popped
out in August (yes Loz, I know).

Much to my surprise, an email and a phone call later and they are
going to pick it up from the bike accessories place down the road on
Monday, fix it under warranty and drop it back before next weekend.

Question one - shall I peel the UKRM sticker off - if I leave it on
    will they squeal 'void warranty'?

Now as far as I can tell the mending involves removing the broken bit
and gluing another chin vent into place.

Question two - If it is this easy, then surely the structural
integrity wasn't that great to start off with?

I think when it comes back it is going to be relegated to spare lid
status. So now comes the process of trying to find another size 53 lid
in black that is as plain as possible and doesn't cost a small
    fortune.

Question three - Any body with a similar size head got any
recommendations or ideas on where to start? I hate shopping, I want to
narrow it down to a couple, try them on and then get back to bed.

  2. Heh, dainty heads are us. I'm a 53 too.

    Ive owned the following:

    shark - utter shite

AGV - liked and would have again

Shoei - was ok but always felt a bit lose, guess I should have gone
for a smaller size but they'd have had to pre-ordered it which as it
was in the ok cetegory (and reduced in a sale) I went with it.

Uvex - by far the most comfortable helmet of all the recent (ish) but
after 18months is far more worn than I'd like and am already planning
in replacing it. Love the visor but cant recommend the rest.

so overall, when you find one, give me a shout and we'll see if we can
discount for bulk buying. I tried one of Lozzo's but even he said he
wouldnt sell me one because of the fit!!

    Me too!

The ones I can recall owning have been:

AGV - ok for a budget lid but not always comfortable (hard parts on the
inside of the lid pressing on the forehead).

FM - A good fit when new but doesn't take long to turn into something
that spins like mad as the lining compresses too much. Do FM still
    make helmets anyway?

Arai - really really nice lid, best one I've ever had, but the
prohibiting factor is the cost, which is why I currently own a..

Shoei XR800 - Not as nice a lid as the Arai in quality, but at £98.00
instead of £250 I wasn't going to complain! And guess what - the fit
is no different to the Arai.
That sounds like a good idea, I was going to wait until the Manchester
Bike Show to replace the Shoei but if we can do a deal..

    I won't say it...
Fibreglass lid, shouldn't make the blindest bit of difference. If they
get shouty refer them to me.
They are usually held in with barb-type protrusions on the back of the
    vent. No gluing required.
It's an AGV, so that's a given anyway
Next time you see me you can rootle through my sample stock and see if
any suit your head shape and size. I have quite a few XS helmets
knocking around cos that's my head size.

Cool. I had a similar result yesterday what a Shark S500.
Hmmmm, it all depends whether the glue used affects the helmet.

My Caberg flip lid is a 55.
I would recommend a flip lid Caberg can be bought from under a ton.

There's a clever reply to that somewhere, but I can't think of it...

I would recommend a Nitro F317 VZ over the Caberg for seven reasons :

    1) The Nitro is fibreglass as opposed to the Caberg's polycarbonate.
    2) The Nitro is streets ahead in terms of build/material quality.
    3) The Nitro is 10ukp cheaper than the Caberg J1 Plus.
    4) The Nitro is Gold ACU stickered, the Caberg J1 Plus isn't.
    5) The Nitro has an internal thumb operated chinbar release, making it
impossible to open by hitting the ground, as opposed to any with an
external release button or catch, like the Caberg.
    6) The Nitro is quieter, in fact the Nitro is the quietest helmet I have
ever used. Pretty impressive for a flip-front.
    7) If you buy a Nitro in Kent, Essex or Greater London I get a cut of
    the proceeds :)
