Off-road, theft-only insurance cover?

Has anyone managed to find insurance to cover a bike that is laid up?

Seems like lots of brokers will cover a car for fire and theft only, but I
cannot find anyone to cover a bike.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

Spend the money you've got set-aside for insurance on lots of anti-theft
    measures such as a castle.

I'm sure the classic insurance specialists offer this. Try Carole Nash.

    [snip]
Well, the bastards tried 3 times in a month to get into the garage but
didn't make it, even though on the last attempt they forced the door frame
    from the wall.

Now I've got cameras, vibration alarms and all sorts of stuff there, just
waiting the my neighbours to ignore the sirens!

I'm with them already and they don't seem to want to know. Hence the post
    here.

I'm suprised about that. Do live in an *cough* high risk area?

It *may* be worth trying your household insurer.

ISTR that some companies would cover vehicles for theft only, if they were
not being used on the road. BICBW, again.

ISTR seeing an insurer in Trials & Motocross News who'd do fire &
theft cover for off-road bikes ('crossers and the like) but the
premiums started at something like 9% of the bike's worth and I think
there was a hefty excess too.

Have you thought about the advantages of dog sitting for a friend for a
    while?

Failing that, attach extra bolts through the garage door that are only
accessible from the inside. It will mean a bit more hassle when you
need to open the door, but it'll make it so they have to cut sections
out of the door to get in which would be somewhat suspicious.
