  5. Doesn't you're health insurance cover this?
The dental stuff I mean, not the fucking.

  7. That's with the discount that the "insurance" brings. One tooth. What
    would that cost in Blighty?

If you can find an NHS dentist[1]:

£15.50 for the initial consultation then:

Max of £189 which includes as many visits to complete the treatment.

Root canal filling would be £42.40

[1] I have to travel 10 miles into the next county

Be glad you are not in the USA where a root canal on a premolar costs
$800.00 and then the dentist always insists that you cap it with a
$800.00 crown.. It is costing me over $2000.00 USD to fix a tooth where
the filling fell out. On top of the high prices the dentists also try
to sell you lots of stuff that you may or may not need since it's all
    for profit.

You've been fucked. My root canal was 1200 USD for everything and it was
    completely painless.

Oh, and how do you expect to be taken seriously if you top post?

Still sounds like a rip off. It's about 600 Eu for the full job
including ceramic crown over here (France).

When it comes to dentistry, I don't care what it costs so long as it's
    completely painless.

I'll take bike injuries for nowt, but dentistry I value.

Aye, I'm with you there. I was pleasantly surprised the first time I
went to the dentist in our village that not only did he share my
values wrt pain, but that the anaesthetic he uses completely numbs the
tooth/root he's working on without any of the associated numbness of
face that used to last for hours afterwards.

Have UK dentists also started using this?

    What, correctly applied local anaesthetic?

Yeah, I had some drilling action in January, didn't feel a thing, and my
face was back to normal shortly after. I don't think it was anything
special, just the right amount applied in the right place, rather than
the old fashioned method of pumping half a gallon into your cheeks,
missing the bit they'll be drilling completely.

No, it's very much more location-specific compound. Even correctly
applied, the stuff I used to have in the UK would make the outside of
the jaw/cheek and sometimes the tongue go numb, and remain that way
for an hour or three afterwards.

This stuff is so localised you wouldn't know you'd had it.
Therein lies the difference. As I say, this stuff doesn't have _any_
effect on the face. And I've had about ten fillings and a crown
    done/redone since I've been here, so it wasn't just a one-off.
Which was probably also a factor, it's true.

I had an NHS filling done a couple of weeks ago, and that matches my
