Offers

  1. Does everyone else get bombarded with offers for cable TV, broadband,
mobile phones etc which are just utterly useless and pointless?

My broadband supplier keeps offering me an upgrade but wants to tie me
to a 24 month contract. I've already told them I do not wish to be tied
to a fixed term contract but they don't listen. Are they capable of
coming up with an upgrade package on a rolling contract - err no they
aren't because they think I am a "business" customer rather than just
    being a pleb.

Sky want me to upgrade from my ancient Sky Box to Sky HD but I don't
want to pay then £10+ a month extra. I'll happily wait until they
remove the premium charge. By then, of course, the current sky boxes
will be out of date never mind the one I've got.

And today Virgin Media send me a "special thank you" offer for all sorts
of TV related stuff which is of no interest either.

Why can't they offer a spectrum of offers and make some effort to tell
you rather than just insisting on the one they think is right?

Sorry that's a moan but it really is exasperating getting piles of junk
communication through the letter box and inbox which might be attractive
but never is once you've read the small print.

Simple. My local authority supplies a nice red sack for recycling paper. It
sits under the table which is directly under the letter box. Most of my
mail is put straight into the red sack. Of course, indirectly we all pay
for that direct mail but I see it as a redistribution of wealth as every
letter sent means work for some people from the paper forests to the
recycling centres. Our door to door postal service would've died a death
years ago without direct mail. I'm sure you'd be happy to queue up down the
    Post Office for your mail...

  3. Junk mail via the internet goes straight to spamcop[1] and snail mail
paper junk gets shredded unread and after 6 months becomes free compost.

[1] Even from so called "legitimate sources". ****'em, if I say no mail I
fucking mean it and I get quite militant about it. It does not always
stop the junk mailings but it certainly costs them a great deal of money
that they will never make in profit from me to deal with my responses.

I've taken to posting back all prepaid envelopes with other compananies
junk mail contents. Petty I know, but it presumably it costs the
postage and the time at the other end, which I like the idea of.

    Nope:

And for any companies you're doing business with (who can legally send you
marketting stuff even if you're registered with MPS / TPS), just call them
and ask to opt out of any marketting, which I think they're legally obliged
    to allow you to do.
