    Me too. Sadly, even though I used TSR programmes and may even have
    written a couple, I can't recall what the benefit was. Err, they were
    DOS, weren't they?

    I *can* recall hacking naughty ring-zero drivers for Windows
    three-point-something (I think) that allowed applications to use a
    callback function, thus circumventing the protection system. We used
    it to write test software that could access the entire system IIRC..

    OORC yes. I had a mouse driver, and maybe a memory driver that were
    TSR's. I *think* the benefit was that they effectively changed the
    system behaviour. So the mouse driver ran, changed the way the system
    worked (i.e. allowed mouse input) and the stopped using resources.

    This was about 20 years ago though, so I reserve the right to be talking
    utter crap.
    Sounds like a blast.
