May I interject with a Vauxhall Viva here. No need to describe it, apart
from saying it siezed after two whole weeks (including weekends). Nuff
    said.

I rode the course in 1983[1], unfortunately not during race week and
also unfortunately on a pretty ratty GS550E.

I'd love to go for race week one day.

[1] Travelling to Norn Iron the weekend of the Maze prison breakout was
a bloody pain with all the sodding roadblocks.

You didn't miss much - the course isn't much to write home about when it's
not closed off, due to it passing through lots of busy 30 and 40 mph zones.
The Ulster Grand Prix circuit is *much* more fun, as it's deserted and all
    National Speed Limit.

If you're biking up to the NW200 (or generally biking in NI), then you
*have* to do the Antrim Coast Road. Not that fast a route, and a lot of
little villages, but one of the most scenic rides in the UK.
Do it - it's fantastic, and way more accessible than the IoM.

Viva. Ha. We rebuilt several engines on those. The cam chain tensioner
had a habit of popping out when it was worn, locking up the camchain
    with comedy consequences.

We did have a Magnum/Firenza that came in for service. That was well
    ahead of its time.

  10. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique,
    typed
    Mine was an HC...
The valve clearances were adjusted with a stiff nut, that would get less
    stiff at time passed.

I once had one get so bad that the rocker turned through 90 degrees,
making the engine even less powerful.

One of my first cars was a very early Magnum 2300 Coupe ex-police car,
    it replaced a 1967 E regd HB Viva 1159.
