Oh God. Ebay and claret don't mix

  1. I've just bought this:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=260280850153

Dunno why. I've always fancied having a little GS500 to nip around on.
And having talked to the seller on the phone, and got all the right
answers to the questions... well, for £750, it seemed like a steal.

    Unlike this:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=160276532114

Went to look at it, as it was only 5 miles away.

First thing: head races *utterly* fucked. Second thing: before starting
it, the seller flipped up the seat and removed the side panel, to
    re-connect the battery. Erm, why.....?

I'd forestalled him. With a flourish, I produced my multimeter. "OK,
first check, let's see if it's charging..." On it went. 12.2 volts. Hm.
Not a perfect charge. OK, let's start it up. Coo, that sounds nice.
    Check the meter....

Oh dear, still 12.2 volts. Rev, rev, nope, 12.2 is all you get.

    "Sorry, it's not charging."

    "Er, um, but..."

"And that's why the battery was disconnected, right? Because it kept
    going flat. Sorry. Goodbye."

****, there are some crap bikes out there. And crap sellers, too. I'll
wait and see who wins this one, and what their feedback will be.

  3. Erm, funny you should say that. I reckon it's worth £1100 all day long.
No, I'll flog the XT, I think. I dunno. Whichever goes first.

You have a special coin, probably a penny from 1864, for making these
    decisions with.

  6. Not long I should think, once he's actually ridden it a bit.

Crap bike at an agreeable price.

I'm now appraised that you must live 5 miles from Purley, Surrey.

Didja hear the one about the astronaut who flies to Mars and meets
    a fuzzy little creature.
    "What are you?"
    "I'm a Furry."
Few miles on he meets another one. Asks what it is.
    "I'm a Furry."
Another mile or so and he sees the same kind of fuzzy creature
only this one has a hypodermic needle stuck in the hair on its head.
"What are you supposed to be?"
"I'm the Furry with the syringe on top."

Wasn't there a thread up there ---^ somewhere on just how utterly,
utterly crap these bikes are? I learnt on one and thought it was
bearable. but then I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a
child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away
    childish things.

  13. Well, we'll see. If I find it unbearable, it goes back on Ebay.

True enough, I fancied one because they look so simple to work on.

  15. Have you any pics/details of the XT, before it goes on ebay, and what
    you'd want for it?
