I've a stubborn refusal to grow up.

That and I find some of his stuff highly entertaining.

That would be because it is. Some if it is also highly intelligent.

Of course you'd have to read 'most' of them to have experienced this.

  3. Ooook!

With 55 million book sales predominately to adults you *must* be
    "constantly amazed".

I like Disc World stuff. I found it made a very pleasant diversion from
reading some very heavy duty technical tomes for work.

Maybe this explains why we don't see much of him around these parts

  9. I recently read Max Hastings' book on the Korean War and a passage
struck me. One GI described the entire country as smelling of shit.
Human shit, all over the place. In those days, being dirt poor and
unable to afford modern fertilisers, the Ks had the habit of spreading
their family outgoings on the fields, ably assisted by the towns and
    cities.

  10. There was a case here where some bint who wanted to bump her hubby off,
got in touch with a geezer via a similar site. Since the site was meant
to be a joke of sorts, same as yours, the owner got in touch with the
Feds, who contacted the polis here and they decided to let it run to see
if she was serious or not.
She was, very. Got banged up for a few years for conspiring to murder or
    somesuch.

    And thought provoking.
I'm amazed anyone still rises to the Pratchett bait tbh. It's only a
darsy, trying to be Dangermouse to ogden's Penfold.

Sure, and I have a soft spot for Tintin, but I don't pretend it's
    anything but a guilty pleasure.
I read them about as far as The Truth, by which point any appeal had
entirely disappeared due to my growing up and Pratchett resting on his
    laurels.

Soldiers are fighting end of sentence. That's their fucking job !

If we are at war I'd expect our civil servants to at least have the
courtesy to let us know, that's *their* fucking job !

That's what you say now, just wait till you've had to speak to those
*civil servants* who are there to look after you when you're chasing
those entitlements you're due now that you're down on your luck.

One has to ask oneself is entertainment literature or is literature
    entertainment ?

Personally I'm quite happy with both, but I always say that after a
couple of bottles of wine and some random spirits.
