I heard that too on the Radio. It is rather stupid, potential bombers
will just do their stuff before the last hour, so it seems ridiculous to
    make that ruling.

On another note, this latest 'bomber' was already on a US 'watch-list',
yet his already issued Visa was still valid, and he got through Customs
with no thorough checking, so the US watch-list doesnt seem to be doing
any good at all, rather than making the US Government seem happy that
they have detected 550,000 potential terrorists.
Not much use having a list if they can then enter your Country.

    Gaffa tape.

Of course once a few people have pissed on the floor that will be
another rule out of the window.

  5. Change your flight and come in via Canada.
They'll put the seatbelts sign on and tell you to sit down. By
Federal law, passengers are required to follow the commands of flight
    crew.

I suspect that the numbers and resources of Al-qaeda et al are grossly
overstated. The IRA managed some sort of attack every other week. Al-qaeda
have managed some attacks resulting in numerous deaths, but that's hardly
surprising as their target seems to consist of the entire western world, and
they're happy to use suicide tactics, whereas the IRA concentrated on
attacking the RUC, Army & British Government, and surviving, which is a
    rather more difficult job.

If Al-qaeda had half the resources they're made out to have and 20 decent
men in the UK, then they could create mayhem. As it stands, most of their
attacks seem to be most hampered by a lack of very basic chemistry
    knowledge.

  8. Exactly. And on a transatlantic flight, that means any bomb will
detonate while the aircraft is that much further from home and reduce
the chance of a successful emergency set-down, if the plane survives the
    initial bang.

    Incompetent arseholes.

Don't forget about the Air Marshals. They'll probably shoot you or
    arrest you on landing.

Don't forget that although people run under the name of Al-Qaeda,
they're not all physically supported by the organisation, so may indeed
not have the skills, support or resources to do things properly.

I know, they could give out guns to a random number of passengers to
shoot if they think one of the other passengers is doing something dodgy.

Help save the country, just like these guys:

Perhaps we could hand over transatlantic airline security to the Israelis

Maybe an organised Piss In would have some effect. 200 passengers urinating
in their seats 40 minutes from landing.

  17. **** that. Flying out of Tel Aviv was one of the scariest experiences
I've had; far more concerning than flying out of Russia breaking
currency regulations (more than 1000 USD IIRC).

  18. I think given the choice of sitting in my own urine for 40 minutes or
not being involved in a childish protest I'd take the latter option.
    YMMV.

An organised boycott of the country would be the most effective way to
    deal with it.

Just stop visiting the place on holiday and start telling the merkins
that if they want face to face business meetings they'll have to
    travel for them.
