Play along until you've got the cheque in your hands. They do get
wonderfully irate when they realise they've spent all that money on
forged cheques & postage for nothing :)

If you haven't got a work address you can use, I'd suggest using your
    local police station.

Not interested at all ime. I showed them the first cheque I got, & they
hadn't even heard of 419 scams. They said someone from regional HQ
would call me - never heard a thing.

I also took it to HSBC as it was forged on one of their accounts.
They'd never heard of the scams either, and weren't remotely
interested, which pissed me off somewhat. You'd think they would at
least flag up the particular account so cheques were double checked
before clearing. Presumably they'd rather just reel in the bank charges
    from bouncing cheques instead.

Getting the scammer to send the cheque somewhere still costs them money
though, which is the only reason I bother. I don't know how much a
forged cheque costs them, but I would imagine it's more than pennies,
especially as they are very good quality. The HSBC thought it was
genuine until they noticed the phone number was wrong.

There is a unit set up in Maidstone, I believe it is, who deal
especially with this sort of thing.

    Google is your friend.

  8. They do. In the US, they tend to close your account for passing
counterfeits *and* inform the FBI as SOP.
They are very good quality indeed. Good enough to fool banks on
presentation. Some are being printed in Nigeria, and Fedex'd to the
    crims abroad.

They're making a lot of money with this scam in the US, where cheques
take longer to clear and it can take a fortnight or more before the
    thing bounces.
