What a great idea, give plod the right to ban you from driving, fine
you, or bar you from a public place without any of that inconvenient
    "court" nonsense.

They'll be wanting the highly-polished jackboots next, I expect.

    Hitler was voted in democratically.
The Gestapo gradually usurped judicial power
    Elections then became unnecessary

    tad scary imho

No, he wasn't. He was appointed Chancellor in accordance with the
democratic procedures laid down in the then Weimar Republic's
constitution, but that is a long way from being the same as being voted
    in.

Technically Hog's correct - he *was* voted in, but you're correct as he was
only voted in as whatever the then German version of an MP is.

IIRC from my O-Level history he was shoe-horned into the position of
Chancellor by the use of some rather dodgy arguments during a time of great
recession as a way of appeasing a loud-mouthed minority party...

  14. No, he wasn't.
    FFS.

He wasn't voted in by MPs either. Nor by anybody. He was appointed by
    the President, Hindenburg.

What grade did you get? ;-)

5 live were having a debate about this.

Interestingly, according to the chap from the police union, ACPO didn't
bother to ask their own rank and file thought of hte idea either.

ie it's hot air from the top designed to look like they're doing
    *something*.

Stops them looking racist too, of course.
