Oh the shame of it.

Another guitar added to the collection today. This time it's a fooking
wonderful Dobro (primarily for slide playing, but not exclusively so). Made
in 1936 before the day when the Dopeyra Brothers were taken over by National
Guitars, so it's a fairly rare instrument. It sounds bloody good and plays
    beautifully too.

Same guitar as used by Robbie McIntyre who plays for/with John Mayer. It's
taken me nearly 2 months to get the bloke to part with it, but he collapsed
today when a handful of readies fell into his hand.

    A happy bunny I is.

Now that is a really nice score, that is.

It's even better than that Colin. I just nipped out and bought a new slide
after fucking my previous glass one up trying to modify it to suit the
radius of the Dobro. Cheeky cunts took a fiver off me for nowt but a broken
    test tube. :)

I'm sure you'd love the sound this guitar makes, because it goes *way*
beyond anything I've ever heard. I checked the intonation today (it sounded
pretty good yesterday but I was obviously listening with newly purchased
rose tinted ears) but I checked it against a piece of electronicery just to
see if it was out. Absolutely perfect, which given that this thing has no
truss rod, no adjustment on the saddle or the nut (both original) and is 75
years old, speaks volumes about the skills the old septics had when it came
come cranking out guitars for people who couldn't fooking tune 'em.

And only 1200 quid. Even shite ones are selling for more at places like
Frailers (a vintage guitar shop), so yeah, a really nice score.

When I was after a slide I did it the proper way - went round offies
buying numerous long-necked wine bottles of different shapes and sizes
until I found one with a neck of just the right radius, then spent
several hours getting the neck off with a decent recess for the finger
    inside it

It's an expensive way of doing it, mind.

I had a beauty, being exactly the right radius, but the inside was too wide
for my scrawny fingers, so I intended "packing" the internals but go carried
away and decided to modify its length. Grindstones and glass bottle necks
aren't a good combination, y'know. The one I bought is straight sided, but
it has a great tone so I'll use it 'til I find a bottle with the right
dimensions and then get someone to drink the contents. Cheap, but fucking
    long winded :)

I'm sorely tempted, but I promised the bloke I bought it from I wouldn't
flog it on and make a profit, so..... sorry:)
I would if I hadn't twatted my ring finger on my picking hand buggering up
my nail (and making it as sore as ****), so I can only enjoy looking at it
for a day or two now :(

    Pictures of the new baby.
