Hey guys, thinking about an Ohlins for the Bandit (it's either upgrade
it or sell it and I'm vacillating between the two)

Who sells them and is there anything particularly I should know (ie are
there heaps of different models etc), what do they cost usually ?

    96 Bandit 1200 BTW

    Thanks

what about other suzuki shocks like GSXR etc , any of those fit ??

if so your chance of used has just increased enormously

GSXR1100 fit, but I'm not sure what year model (I think it was early
90's - trying to find the archive of the Bandit list discussions from 2
    years ago now)

But realistically, is a fully adjustable 10 year old shock going to be
much improvement ? sure I can twiddle with rebound and damping but
without getting it revalved and refreshed is there any point ? How much
would a rebuild cost and would it be significantly different to buying a
    new ohlins ?

Actually come to think of it, that's not a bad price, it's less than I
expected, how do I order one please ?

Email address above, minus the obvious spam trap, if you'd like to take
    it offline.

Emu, I guess the Bandit is off the market again, seeing as you didn't
    email me anyway :)

  10. 1974 GSXR 750 shocker will fit , or a shock from the 1974 model 1100 GSXR
but will raise the rear about 20 mm IIRC
I've got the 750 shocker in mine and it makes a heap of difference from
    standard.(fully adjustable ).
Another alternative is to get the standard shock rebuilt with a spring more
    suited to your wieght .
Some good bandit links and info here here:

From my experience getting one for the Hornet, you are better off
buying the thing from Ohlins, over the 'net.

I actually made the mistake of ordering mine from the Ohlins agent
(someone in Vic), who faffed about for nearly five months before I got
the thing...:-( and it ended up being 50% more expensive, too!

    Hmm that sux.

The ohlins website doesn't allow you to order directly, they list their
distributors- there's no online shop. The only other option is to order
it through another country's distributor and have it shipped here.

Yeah, I think you'll find most larger-than-5-guy automotive
manufacturing operations don't sell direct through their websites. Too
many distributor agreements in place with non-competing clauses.

I reckon eBay/used is your best bet... $1500 is a pretty pricey mod for
a bike worth well south of $10k.

Probably worth about 6K, but as pointed out by someone not that long ago
(Al Pennykid ?). You can take the Ohlins off again after 10 or 20,000Km
and sell it for 2/3rds what you paid for it, while selling the bike
    seperately.

In which case it becomes a cheap mod.

Besides which, I had a think and my choice is to buy a new bike that
suits me better (circa 18-20K with mods) which I'll then have to sell
when I bugger off O/S in '06 (and lose probably 6K-8K on), versus
spending 2 grand on a bike to make it acceptable for the next
12-18months, and do maybe a grand when I sell it. The Bandit isn't going
to drop much value in the next 12-18months, and the Corbin seat and the
Ohlins shock should sell for at least 50% of their purchase cost in 12
months time. And I'm not tying up an extra 10-15K worth of capital in
    the meantime.

I'm trying to be rational here !!

    JL
(besides then I can put the extra 10K into buying another bike <grin>)
