Same reason people cover number plates up on ebay adverts[1].

Either that or Timo's worried about Lozzo making crank calls.

[1] fucked if I can understand that one either.

Hmm, I hadn't thought of that but now that you mention it...
"Cloned plates" - getting more interesting again with all the ANPR
system, congestion charges and all that bollocks.

  5. In other news - remember my mate with the 1200 with the broken gearbox?
The frame is cracked as well.....

Guess he shouldn't have stomped on the gear lever that hard then...

  7. Apparently this was a common weakness on early 1200s, BMW think some
people sit on them and roll off the centre stand (my mate is actually
tall enough to do this, but doesn't do it generally), and later frames
were strengthened. Not sure exactly which part of the frame is cracked
    but it's a replaceable part.

    whaaaat?

Why on earth /shouldn't/ people roll the bikes off the centre stand
whilst sitting on them? It was certainly the only safe way I could get
my 1150GS off the centre stand...

  9. Well that's true and it's something I do occasionally as well, maybe
it's just fat bastard BMW owners causing the problems. As it happens my
mate is 16 stone of ex-rower muscle, so God knows what would happen if
he took it offroad. He has the feeling that the BMW dealership doesn't
see anybody doing the same miles as him (must work out at about 20k a
year), so he's getting problems other people aren't seeing (yet). He's
not intending to keep it past the warranty anyway.

    In communiqué <lXdcHfeW9$>, mike.
Apparently (SWK at Piaggio told me) there were quite an incidence of
transmission failure on the first Gilera Runner twist 'n go scooters,
but only in Italy. The preferred method of achieving a quick get away
favoured by the locals is allegedly to wind the beast up to a good rate
of revs on the stand then lunge forward to roll it off, resulting in a
    rapidly spinning rear tyre/road interface.
