I'd like to convince myself with this argument but always end up
    bottling out.

Well, I can get the motorbike, two mtbs (well 1.5 at the moment until
my new frame turns up in January[1]) and the car in there as well as a
decent size workbench. Big enough really.

Hopefully it will be. I've test ridden the aluminium 2005 version and
it's a blinding ride. You don't realise you have rear suspension
because it only works when it needs to. Plus the carbon one weighs
    bugger all.
Yeah, that was the slight drawback to it.

Don't. You'll never regret buying quality tools.

Nice but too much travel for me, and I don't like fully active
suspension. I'm an old-school hardtail rider and the Epic suits my
style much better than active designs. I tried out an Enduro, a Whyte
46, a Trek Fuel 98 and a Marin Tara (can't remember which one) and
really only got on with the Epic.

Plus the Intense is way too heavy. The Epic will build up to be a
23lb bike with the current kit from my hardtail.

Horses for courses. I haven't got a road bike so I use my Klein Attidude
Race which is very light and fast. If I'm going off road I'd like
something Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy.

The endless free credit was numero uno. Walking into the van closed
    the deal.

  14. Ditto. I've had some of my Britool stuff for 30+ years and most of the
S-O spanners for 25+ years, with a sprinkling of other makes in it.

    I'd agree there.
Bang on. If I was starting again and using my stuff purely for hobby or
part-time use, there's no way I'd buy S-O, but in those days the
alternatives were harder to get and were mostly clunky in comparison.
The S-O man-innna-van was a major selling point, and the ability to get
a couple of things and pay it off was the other.

The S-O lifetime guarantee is worth the paper it's not printed on; any
time in the past 20 years I've broken a S-O tool (and that's not been
often) I've simply hailed the nearest S-O guy and asked for a
replacement - it's always happened, no quibble, no problem, no questions
    asked.

There's off-road and there's off-road though. My use is enduro and
marathon racing so it needs to be light with enough travel for comfort
    over distance.

Longer travel bikes make more sense when you're play riding[1] or
    downhilling.

    [1] I hate the term "free-ride".

I'm going with some small bolts I've got because then they're easily
    removable.

Oh, I do buy quality tools but Halfords Professional and Britool / Facom
    rather than Snap On.
