OK it's not the real thing, but it beats an X-Box...

She won't let me have it unless I get the bikes out of the garage.
    What a pity.

  2. I'd have thought there might be just a teensy problem with raising the
    necessary moolah.

    Well there is that too.

I thought of putting in an 'offer' but didn't.

Seriously tho, once something like that's been dismantled, no matter how
carefully, it'd take a huge amount of work to make it function again, if
that's even possible. I see CRTs, analogue sensors of various sorts,
etc. Loadsa fun if you could, but not if you didn't have a tame expert
on hand and a backup team of really good electronics engineers.

Heck, one can still dream. At least it wouldn't use thousands of quid in
    fuel per hour...

The trick would be, I guess, to make a business out of it. I'm sure
there are plenty of pilots who'd love to practice or just try in an
unfamilliar type. Then there's the birthday gift voucher market...

But sadly it's just a little bit more than the Domestic Controller gives
    me for pocket money :-(

Seriously, it's probably a wreck, but I daresay there's some foreign
    government who'll buy it.

If you got it for next-to-nothing you might make a business out of it,
but I can't imagine individuals paying the huge hourly amounts it would
need to turn a reasonable profit. They ought to donate it to the Vulcan
project - probably enough of the right sorts of engineers to get it
going, and possibly it might make them some money... but then I'm
guessing they probably paid a fair bit more than they should have in the
first place and have to recover it.

    I think you're missing the point that (AFAICS) it's not a full-motion
    simulator.

The "experience" could be recreated with a few LCD displays with
suitable graphics cards, a decent PC and a decent flight simulator for a
*lot* less money. Probably less than two grand. A few quid more to get
some instruments hooked up (if you felt that was important) and some
control (I think you'd want to do that) and I bet you could fully
reproduce the interior look and feel for less than three grand, with a
lot less hassle than re-commissioning that piece of crap.

I firmly predict that the subject of the auction will never work again
and will eventually get quietly scrapped for fourpence.

Bu***r! I thought I saw hydraulics in the pics.
    Don't want it now bwaaaaah.
Too true, I expect. Why is it that people have such daft ideas of what
stuff is worth? It's eBay: heck, if you wanna sell it there let people
bid on it. Otherwise why go to the trouble.

Of course, it may be on someone's books now at 750,000. Or not ;-).

But she's gone and had the moat cleaned again, and repainted the duck
house, so we can't afford it this week.

I need a *different* job really, one with perks...

  8. Ex-MoD at auction, that's probably what the current seller paid for it.
