OK what would you do?

  1. For the benefit of the usual suspect it is the Daily Mail so don't take
    it seriously.

But if this is what happened, what would you do?
I've driven forward to move out of the way of emergency vehicles:
    Though a red light.
    Onto solid bordered hatched areas.
    Onto the pavement.
    Up embankments.
On to the wrong side of the road.
    Etc.

Maybe he should have put his hazards on?

  2. OK I have no idea why it took out the link so here it is again.

If it doesn't get through this time I'll blame it on Vista.

If he thought he didn't deserve the penalty, regardless of what the
central ticket office said, surely he could have just taken it to court
rather than accept the points and fine.

Still, that's what happens when you let immigrants and asylum seekers
run the Central Ticket Office. No doubt the three points will give him
    cancer.

I'd like to say: "I wouldn't deliberately break the law to get out of the
way for this exact reason - you won't get any sympathy if you do, or at the
very least you're in for a shit-load of aggro. I'd try to make room for
them to pass if I could do so legally but drivers of emergency vehicles
receive special training before they're allowed to use sirens and lights so
it's up to them to use that training to find a way past me."

But in reality I would probably have done all of those things.

    Oh bollocks.

I would have moved to let the emergency vehicle past. I wouldn't have paid
the fine. I would have written back explaining the circumstances and saying
that I was prepared to go to court. I would let them know that I would be
calling the driver of the poice vehicle as a witness. I would point out
that the cost of all this would be very high and the chances of an absolute
discharge would also be very high so they would almost certainly be wasting
a lot public money to no useful effect. I would also point out that the
negative publicity involved in prosecuting someone for assisting the
emergency services would be very counter-productive.

I've gone over the line and moved out of the way, but there wasn't a camera
to see. I'd be reluctant to do it if there was, for the reason in the link.

I'd still do whatever to get those points removed though.

It was a police van, they were probably chasing the motorcyclist doing
33mph in a 30. I'd have stayed put. He's got the twos and blues, let
    him sort it out.

TBH, these days I do very little to help the authorities in any way
because of the increasing risk of collateral damage. "Would you like
to volunteer some DNA so we can remove you from the investigation" is
one that particularly makes me laugh.

Nice is exactly what it is - look at the diagram and it might be the
case that our boy saw the blues in his mirror then tried to take
advantage and make progress through a red light - but actually closed
the gap with car C to block the panda. If it was me I would be tempted
to fight it "irregardless" but he looks guilty to me. No sympathy.

If car B hadn't nudged forward then car C wouldn't have had to move so
far into the junction. I wasn't there either, but my guess would be
the cop car radioed back and said "send a fixie to the **** in the
    lexus".
